% of part time students

Does anyone know where I could find out the % of part time students at a given school. I think this would help me in looking at graduation rates. I would consider part time 9 credits or less. Is this information available from US News?

you can get the info from collegeboard.com

put the name of your college in the college finder window. the first page of the info will give you info on the student body. % part time students is one of the information bits listed.

For graduation rates, why not look at what % actually graduate in xxx years?

In addition to the College Board site, use the US Department of Education’s College Opportunities Locator (COOL) - <a href=“College Navigator - National Center for Education Statistics”>College Navigator - National Center for Education Statistics;

It lists actual graduation rates, % of part time students, number of students graduating in different majors, campus crime stats, and a multitude of other useful information. And, it’s free and easy to use.

Thank you everyone. Do you have an opinion an the impact, positive or negative, part time students have on the feel of a college. Some schools have a much larger % of pt students and I wonder how that effects the culture at the school.
D is looking at small privates which seem to have few pt students, has just looked at a few larger publics that have a much larger % of pt students. She is worrying about commuter/suitcase feeling. Because the publics are larger the pool of students around on the weekend will still be larger in total.

it really depend on the nature of the part time students. Many universities have evening courses which cater to career adults. Relatively few full time students need to enroll in these courses so the impact in negligible. In my under grad days I did take one of these(pipeline design) and actually liked being to interact with practicing engineers during the class.

As far as college age students are concerned the major factor is the %age of students living on campus or in housing near the campus. These will be the students involved in campus life outside the classroom and define the campus culture. But I do not think it matters too much whether these students are full or part time. It is their level of involvement in college life which is most important.

originaloog- do you have any suggestions to determine how many students live on or near campus and stay involved in campus life? I am not sure a single visit or overnight stay is enough. Do you rely on word of mouth?

tom1944-call the Office of Residence Life. They will be able to give you a precise figure for on-campus housing and probably an idea about nearby off campus housing too.

To get a general idea you might want observe the amount of student parking in areas away from the dormatories. Large percentages of commuter students will have an impact on campus life, particularly if those commuters are living at home.
