how hard is it get a job off campus during the school year? im afraid the amount of work study that they are giving me wont be enough money, and ill need to find another job. will the school help me with this?

Most definitely check with the school to see what they can do for you. I reallly think Pomona does whatever it can to help. As far as immediately off campus? Mainly you've got The Village with restaurants, little shops, music store so probably part-time jobs to be found there

I believe you can do more hours sometimes for work study, but it may just not be tax exempt and will count towards your student contibution for aid computation. There is an office on campus that can help as well. Some of the Pomona off campus jobs for work study would probably employ you as well.

My sister went to Pomona and she told me that just because you have work study in your financial aid offer doesn't mean that you'll automatically have an on campus job, and just because you don't have work study doesn't mean you can't get an on campus job. Did that make sense? It's kind of up to you to find the job either way.

I remember reading the fine print and it said that you're technically not supposed to have an off-campus job in addition to your work study. I think that's because of what arizonamom said - it will count towards your student contribution for aid computation. Nevertheless, the financial aid office is pretty lenient. I know of people (including myself) who have gone over their limit, but you first have to e-mail them about it. I bet it's pretty easy to get a job in the Village, especially during the school year. However, will you have enough time for classes and two jobs?

hmm....2 jobs might be a little tough, but i was able to work 15hrs on the weekends during the school year, and it looks like ill probably be only working around 8 hours a week to reach my work study total, and 8 hours really doesnt seem like anything.
also, i was looking at my bill for this semester, and it doesnt factor in my work study pay. so do my parents pay the tuition and then i get a credit towards the next semester with the pay i get this semester? or do i just get cash and give that to my parents to put towards the debt gained from that semesters tuition?

You get checks that you can cash in to pay back your parents.

Work study is supposed to pay for the incidentals like books, clothing, snacks, entertainment, etc. that you incur throughout the year, which Pomona budgets for in your aid estimation, but isn't officially part of the tuition and fees you pay to the school.
