Off campus housing for graduate students

Hi, my son will be going to Tufts graduate school at the main campus in the Fall 2025. We were warned there are a lot of housing scams. Can someone suggest the best way to find roommates & a place other than the school linked matching (very quiet on there).

Do students typically use a broker?

Looking near Davis Square. Budget is healthy.

Craigslist can still be useful if used carefully. Facebook marketplace. Zillow. It can work to get a place and then find roommate)s) or join a preexisting household. There are plenty on craigslist now. In the local market, most situations are gone by August in my experience.

They do charge a fee generally, equal to a month’s rent.

Does the school not keep a list of those previous students use ? Most have vetted lists I believe.

Also try looking on the Tufts Reddit page. I don’t know about that page specifically but other college pages I have looked at on Reddit often have discussions about/matching for grad housing options. At the very least you can ask actual students how they found their housing.

Just looked at Reddit last night. Not much there.

I don’t believe tufts does. His last school did.

Sent you a PM.
