<p>Before considering this apartment complex, please research the complaints of University Village Apartments on Colvin regarding their handling of inadequate, slow, unreliable, internet service. They promised their residents “fast wireless internet at your fingertips”.
The reality is that they are not fulfilling their end of the promise. The internet service is too slow to handle the number of students living in the complex. Students have been complaining about the problem since early September. The complex appears to continue to let this problem drag on while pacifying their residents with promises of correcting the issue.
Unfortunately, promises do not help the students.</p>
<p>Students living at University Village Apartments on Colvin depend on fast internet access in order to complete their work. They need reliable internet access to download reading materials, research, upload their assignments, access online assignments, etc. They are being penalized (not being able to access online material, not being able to complete online assignments, etc.) for the apartments complex’s slow and ineffective actions to correct the issue.</p>
<p>Their website (University Village Apartments on Colvin) still clearly advertises fast wireless internet at your fingertips. </p>
<p>It’s a great place to live if you don’t need internet access. However, based on our experience, I can not recommend for parents to seriously consider this apartment complex for their college students. The way it stands now, the students must leave their apartments in search of a stronger wireless internet access to complete their assignments.</p>
<p>I’ve contacted the complex via email numerous times and have yet to get a response.
Had we known that their promise of fast internet access was an untruth, we never would have considered this complex. I want the CC community to be aware of our experience with the complex. Had the internet service been as advertised, I would have highly recommended this off campus complex. </p>

<p>If it weren’t for the POOR INTERNET, I would have recommended this complex. Right now, I’m extremely frustrated for the students living there and trying to complete their online assignments, research, and such. Students living on campus can go back to their dorm rooms and work on their assignments via the internet. Students living at University Village Apartments on Colvin (which is located on the South Campus, but run by a private company) can’t rely on their internet access. </p>
<p>What the heck is going to happen when the snow and bad weather sets in up there? These students are going to have to head back to campus just to gain a stable access to the internet. </p>
<p>I’m also extremely frustrated that after sending them at least 3 emails over the course of a week, they have chosen to not respond to my questions. I also have copies of emails going back to early Sept. informing them of the internet problem. I’ve been told that many of the student residents don’t see the point in complaining because there is nothing they can do to get the problem corrected. Many of the students have chosen to remain silent in the hopes that the students who are more knowledgeable about computers and more vocal will get through to the complex to fix the problem ASAP. The complex keeps making promises but there is no guarantee that the problem will be fixed.</p>
<p>Members of CC have been extremely helpful to me over the years. If I were a parent (or student) looking for off campus housing in this area, I would want to know this information. This is the reason for me posting this info. I want to prevent others from having to deal with this problem. I still have some hope that the complex will follow through and make the needed corrections to the internet. However, I’m not going to hold my breath. I feel terrible for the students who have been penalized for not being able to upload, download, etc. their assignments.
Yes, they could have taken a bus or driven back to the main campus to get internet access. However, the students should have been able to get the work done in their own apartments especially when they were promised fast internet access at their fingertips (an amenity clearly advertised on their UV Apartments on Colvin website).</p>

regarding poor service.</p>
<p>The fast wireless internet access promised by the complex is built into the cost of the rent.
Maybe it’s time for some of the Law students to look into the legality of the complex advertising and promising this amenity and not following through with it. This problem has been going on since early Sept. 2010. </p>
<p>I’d love nothing better than to come back to this thread and post that the problem has been fixed and that the student residents will indeed have access to fast reliable internet service. At the very least, I’d like to come back here and report that the complex has finally responded to my emails. Until the problem is permanently fixed and the students can confidently use the internet within their apartments to complete their assignments, I can’t recommend this off-campus apartment complex to current and future Syracuse University students.</p>

<p>Twoparent, If it weren’t for the crappy internet (even though they advertise fast wireless internet access at your fingertips), I would recommend this complex. The internet at the complex can’t handle the number of students living there and isn’t reliable or fast enough for the students to be able to depend on it to get their assignments completed. My kid has resigned himself to taking his laptop back to the main campus in order to get his work completed. </p>

<p>More residents have posted on the UVA on Colvin facebook page requesting an update on the internet problem and they have not been given any answers. I still have not received response from my emails to the complex. Future residents, please be aware of the internet and cable TV issues at the complex and make note of the way the complex is handling it. They haven’t posted any updates since Oct. 1st. despite requests for info by their residents.</p>

<p>I can now officially say: Be warned. Think twice before signing a lease to rent here.
Without suitable internet, this isn’t the right place for a student to rent.</p>

Did your student consider the apartment complex on main campus that is not SU owned? If so, why did he choose Colvin? As you can see, we are in the midst of making some decisions about next year. My D currently lives in a 2 bedroom unit on South in the dorms and loves it</p>
<p>Son needed housing because he decided to begin a grad program at Syracuse. We were told that on campus grad housing is limited. He only had a few days between graduating from his undergrad program and starting his full time summer job. The search for housing had to happen online because he didn’t have the time to drive 7 hours there to visually search for an apartment. After speaking with the University Village Apartment on Colvin leasing people, we were satisfied and overjoyed with the place------private bedroom and bath, on the bus route, easy drive to campus, parking for his car, everything was new, laundry room in each apartment, and all utilities included. We specifically asked about the internet service. We were told it was included and it’s fast wireless internet. What more would a student want in housing? Expensive–yes, but it offered everything he was looking for and we could do all of the lease stuff online.</p>
<p>Twoparent, if your daughter is set on signing here, be sure to get some clear answers by them regarding their internet service (they use Pavlov and you can google this company and read complaints about this internet provider). I haven’t been able to get any concrete answers. If they continue to say something to the effect of they’re looking into the problem, I would suggest looking at other options before signing a lease at this property.</p>
<p>If they make a permanent fix to the issue (more broadband) and actually offer RELIABLE and fast internet, I would definitely recommend the place. Son just deals with it and adapts. When the internet is slow, he’ll pack up his stuff and drive to campus with his laptop to get his work done there. I can see this becoming more of an issue when it’s cold and snowing and he finds that he needs to drive back to campus to access a faster internet connection. I have my fingers crossed that a permanent fix will be put into place by then. Unfortunately, I haven’t received any direct answers–they have ignored my emails and haven’t updated their facebook page in 10 days (even though students have posted there asking for answers).</p>
<p>Still no updates or answers despite residents directly asking questions to people in the office and posting daily on UV Apartments on Colvin facebook page. Residents haven’t received honest or clear answers from either Pavlov or University Apartments on Colvin. Pavlov says one thing while the complex says another. This leads me to believe that the problem will not be permanently fixed. They continue to ignore complaints. No updates Since Oct. 1st.</p>
<p>twoparent, Have your daughter ask her friends if they’re logging into the AOX wireless which is the university’s wireless access. If they are able to do this, that explains why they aren’t complaining. The students living in other buildings within the complex may not be able to access the AOX wireless. This leaves them having to deal with Pavlov’s inadequate wireless system (which the complex uses as their provider).</p>
<p>Still nothing! They’ve stopped responding to student’s requests for updates regarding the internet issue. It’s so bad that one student today posted: </p>

<p>It appears that these students are now stuck in a 10 month or 12 month lease in a student apartment complex with inadequate internet. </p>

<p>yes, I’ve seen the ads in the Daily Orange as well for next year…not sure if “false advertising” will be a valid legal issue but if it’s in the lease; different story…</p>
<p>It’s been 16 days without any kind of update. Son and many others have continued to leave their apartments in search of a more reliable internet connection. This is absolutely ridiculous.</p>
<p>University Village Apartments on Colvin FINALLY posted something on their facebook page in response to their resident’s requests for information. </p>
<p>Long story short:–NOTHING NEW. Again, they posted just enough to try to pacify residents into thinking that a permanent fix is coming. However, they failed to include the specific info that the student’s have been asking for----an ETA AS TO WHEN THE PROBLEM WILL BE FIXED. </p>
<p>The students are hoping for a real fix to be completed ASAP–or at least before finals.
IMO–They better not hold their breath.</p>
