Off Campus Violation

Okay, last Friday(July 5) I received a letter in the mail and via email from my school’s Dean of Students office regarding an off campus violation back in late April that happened. I was arrested for a public intoxication incident(4/20/13), and I went to jail for a few hours and later paid the fine. Between 4/20/10 to 5/8/13 I didn’t receive any notifications from the Dean’s office. I don’t get why they waited until early July to send a letter to me. An Assistant Dean wanted me to schedule a meeting with them, but I haven’t yet because of some other issues I have at the time. I’m not sure if I could get expelled, suspended just for a non-violent alcohol arrest which is a Class C Misdemeanor in Texas. My school’s Code of Conduct is vague and doesn’t specifically state what I could get. Has anyone received a Dean of Student’s notice for off-campus violations? I’m not sure what the worst I could face?

I don’t think the fact that it happened off campus matters. So don’t emphasize that. Also it’s immaterial that it took them a while to take disciplinary action.

Schedule the meeting asap and see what the school’s proposing. If you accept responsibility and seem contrite you increase your chances of getting the low end of the disciplinary spectrum. Sounds like the Dean of Students has a lot of discretion so you want him to exercise his discretion in your favor. Good luck!
