off-topic question re: Ivy League hiring...

My employer told me recently that he wanted to hire an Ivy League graduate to help with college admissions (it’s an educational services company) but that he couldn’t advertise the position as such because it’s illegal to discriminate on the basis of educational background (i.e., on the basis of the college that gave you your degree). Has anyone heard of such a thing? Do any existing equal opportunity employment laws cover discrimination on the basis of education? Of course, the question of whether it’s a good idea to hire only Ivy graduates is another topic altogether (IMHO, it isn’t), but that’s not really what I’m asking about here. :)

I know that this is not in any way a question re: graduate admissions, but I’m posting it here because I thought you people might know something about it.

It’s not covered under EEO so your employer can advertise for an Ivy graduate. Or he can just not mention it in his advertisement and just do his own weeding out.

Thanks, ticklemepink. That had been my impression, too.

Or you can just contact the ivy league schools about the position… or put it in their school newspapers…
