Offical SAT II Writing Thread

Only talk about the MC part here, whenever we're allowed to start posting. I assume that we can start the writing one earlier because you're supposed to take this one first.

I thought it was okay, a little harder than the practice ones though. I hope there will be a generous curve.

right on leely888. the mc was definitely harder than any of the books out there. and the essay prompt... out of this universe. never seen that kind of type. I think there will be generous curve, or else ETS will be my life long enemy.

omg the MC was craaaaaaaaaaaaaazy

The essay prompt was crazy. I don't see how you could possibly use any historical, literary, or personal examples, so I just used practical examples in life. The MC was easier than the practice books, in my opinion; however I hope my essay is good.

Did you guys take the same MC test as me?

I thought the essay prompt was weird, but you could use some examples; however the examples I thought of you couldn't really explain too far indepth. I was going to use Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce, which talks about beauty and where to find it, but I decided against it.

You couldn't use any examples unless you were familiar with specific items, which sucked. Normally you could always think of an example to fit such a general statement, except not this one - at least in my opinion.

MC was easy imho.

much like PR MC, barron's tore me a new one.

I agree that essay topic was weird. Very specific. I think they are going more specific now in order to get rid of those pre-writers. I filled all the lines for what thats worth.

the MC and the essay were really hard, i can't imagine anyone going in without any prep and doing well

I pray there's a generous curve.

me too, so I can get my desired scored.

What was the prompt, guys?

Thank GOD I didn't take it. AHHH~!

Support/argue against "The world of art and the world of science are separate."

Hey guys, I'm wondering... For those of you who used Barron's book to prep, do the questions in the book reflect the real thing?

i disagreed with the prompt - talked about ancient architects and using Golden Ratio is parthenon, Fibonacci sequence in spirals of flowers, da vinci and Mona Lisa was appealing cause of ratios in the face, and other paintings from eras depicted the science in that era (industrial revolution = paintings of trains and factories with plumes of smoke - science advancments of the time) my examples were weird though...

i also disagreed with the prompt i mentioned frankenstein and da vincis works...i can explain later when we are allowed to talk about it

I disagreed with the prompt. Talked about how I read Annie Dillard's writings about science: she WROTE POETRY...about Bleh. I bombed it. Just hoping for 650+.

I used science fiction genre of literature

guysss do u remember any specific MC questions? i dont remember anything because i basically went with my gut feeling on everything.

I used da Vinci, and Science Ficition such as Frankenstein, matrix, planet of the apes.

The MCs were...I thought they were ok. If every1 here thought they were bad, and I thought they were "ok"...then hell, I screwed it all up. :(

One of the first MC's was something about a black walk in D.C (?) and it said it helped them "secure" civil rights in America. Was "secure" right, or was it wrong because it should be something like "gain"?
