So, each of the branches of the military - Navy, Air Force, etc - have officer candidate schools that college graduates can attend in order to gain a commission and become an officer.
My question is, I heard that sometimes recent college grads will actually join for other reasons than wanting to join - personal and professional growth, etc. - and that you’re not actually required to join the military after you complete the program? Is this true?

I know this is a really dumb question, as people are probably wondering, “Why would you want to put yourself through the hell of officer boot camp if you don’t want to go into the military?”, but I’m still lightly considering it at this point just because I think it would help me really grow as a person and could really help me reach my full potential…but if, for every branch of OCS, you have to join afterward, I probably won’t do it.

Thanks!
