They know im going to work hard and will stop at nothing to make the most of my college experience.[/li][/ul]Other Factors:I had some very well known people throw in some recs. and make phone calls on my behalf, including senators and Congressmen that i have interviewed in the past.
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:Overly excited I love Dartmouth, but I’m utterly confused as where I want to go still! Im considering Princeton, Brown w/ PLME, Yale, WakeForest, Hopkins(ride), WashU(ride),Cornell, still waiting to hear from UChi, and I wish the best of luck to everyone and know that you will do well wherever you wind up…

Other stats: 5 on AP Bio Test, 4 on AP US

Subjective:
- Essays: Probably what got me in
- Teacher Recs: Great, I asked my bio teacher to be “quirky”
- Counselor Rec: Good
- Hook (if any): Nothing exact…just swimming all my life, but not recruited; I’m well rounded and my personality really showed in my essays.

Location/Person:
- State or Country: IL
- School Type: Public
- Ethnicity: Chinese
- Gender: Male

Other Factors:
*Extracurriculars: Hold a few positions in clubs; captain of club and hs swim team, pres of beta club and others. Placed 11th in State Swimming finals and a bunch of swimming honors; scholastic all-american swimmer. Placed 9th in State Voice of Dem Speech Contest

*Why you think accepted/deferred: It had to be my essays; my three short essays were amazing(and I’m usually quite modest), while my long essay got me into stanford and here.

Decision: Accepted (insert many (i.e. a whole lot of) exclamation points to reflect excitement here)

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2170
[] SAT IIs: 800, 760, 720
[] GPA: 3.8 unweighted, ~4.2 LAUSD standards, ~4.4 UC standards
[] Rank: 1 of about 300
[] Other stats: 11 APs taken… no less than a 4 on any test… but I don’t think there was even a place to tell Dartmouth on the application?
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: My longest essay was a butchered edition of the 600 word copy I wrote for the UC system… though I did put quite a lot of thought into my shorter responses… that Dartmouth didn’t read.
[] Teacher Recs: One extremely well written and generically praiseful. The other written rather quickly but more personally.
[] Counselor Rec: Didn’t read, but it couldn’t have been too good considering our antagonistic relationship.
[] Hook (if any): My peer recommendation was from someone I tutor. I went more into depth on this and my life well below the Federal Poverty Line in my short responses, but again-- Dartmouth was the one college that didn’t ask for those.

[] State or Country: Los Angeles, CA. (San Fernando Valley-- porn capital of the world!)
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Asian, Vietnamese
[] Gender: Male
[] Intended Major: English
[li] Major strength/weakness: English is actually one of my worst subjects, so at the time I figured I may as well declare a major into something I’d actually use in life… don’t think it helped in the admissions process though. I have no idea how I got into Dartmouth or any other Ivy league, really. Perhaps I’m using up all my luck at an early age? Whatever it may be, I’m extremely grateful for it.[/li][/ul]Other Factors: I was sick, nervous, and tired at the interview. So much so that my interviewer may have taken pity on me In fact, my long essay was about how terribly awkward I am. Maybe I stood out from the stereotypical Ivy League Go-Getter?

Edit: speaking of which, it is also worth mentioning that I am the least athletic human being in the world. well, i guess maybe I could be a horse jockey with my size… or something.

I applied for ED and anxiously waiting for the results!!!

still waiting… hehe

“Overly excited I love Dartmouth, but I’m utterly confused as where I want to go still! Im considering Princeton, Brown w/ PLME, Yale, WakeForest, Hopkins(ride), WashU(ride),Cornell, still waiting to hear from UChi, and I wish the best of luck to everyone and know that you will do well wherever you wind up…”

I thought ED was binding? That you had to go to Dartmouth if you were accepted?

I don’t think the person that posted that applied ED.

That’s what happens when you bring up the official REGULAR decision thread from last year. Why’d you do that?? Look at the last few “accepted” posts from April 2006.

Sorry, I see this is still a sticky, so it stays up here all by itself.

Yah about that, I’d just like to point out how strong being black is. Look at that kid’s list of acceptances then look at his stats. Sickening.

i am skeptical to the veracity of the acceptance. those stats are just impossible. if you have a 5.5 W GPA, you get higher than an 1850 on SAT

Not necessarily because GPA doesn’t always correlate. This is either because the person sucks at taking standardized tests or more likely their school has ridic grade inflation like nearly every school in this country except for the top boarding schools.

Congrats to everyone!

Decision: Deferred

Stats:
SAT: 2160 (750 V 690 M 720 W)
SAT IIs: 770 Bio (M), 670 MI
ACT: 34
GPA: 4.0
Rank: 6/186
Other stats: AP Bio- 5, AP US History- 4, AP Euro- 3

Subjective:
Essays: I think decent…my sister (who is an English major at Dartmouth) read them and liked them…
Teacher Recs: amazing
Counselor Rec: I’m guessing amazing
Hook (if any): Girl going into biology, sister currently attends, tons of music/drama extracurriculars

Location/Person:
State or Country: NY
School Type: public
Ethnicity: white
Gender: female
Intended Major: biology
major strength/weakness: I choke on standardized testing (seriously…I get violently ill every single freaking time (during the test, no less)). I’m pretty decent at biology, but apparently not good enough to take ED

Other Factors: I recently submitted an updated list of my extracurriculars, including being selected for “QuizTeam” (nerdy, yes) and writing/directing/filming my own “independent films” that have since received cult status at my high school.

Congrats to everyone who got in! I haven’t totally given up, so I hope to see you all next year :)

uhhhh i got a likely letter… does that count as an official decision?
