Official 2005 - 2011 Decision Thread

febtober is right, not many get in with less than 2000, YayDartmuth got in with 1690, but he/she might have been one of the lucky ones, he/she has ethinicity on his/her side(a big plus) and plus YayDartmuth probably has a great personality that helped with the interview(congrads). but i still think gpa and scores nad awards are probably the most important

I think YayDartmuth is a ■■■■■…

I agree that we do need some sort of expectations in GPAs and SATs but i can guarantee you that about 80% plus of all people who apply to Dartmouth believe that they have a chance of getting in…thus they consider thier academic standing to be good enough for the school…so once you get past the numbers…this is where personal characteristics come into play. Out of the 12,000 ppl who apply to Dartmouth every year, considering that onyl about 1070 get in, there are bound to be those who were rejected with nearly perfect SAT scores and flawlss GPAs…i guess what im trying to say is that most who apply are quite equal in academic standing.(they have to be great or else they wouldnt apply to an ivy league school)…and at this point essays and life stories and personalities come into play…yes sats and gpas are crucial but all in all…they are merely responsible for even giving you the NOTION that you can get in…and since you mentioned ECs…i believe that those are undeniably an aspect of one’s personaility…volunteering…chess club…tennis…those are the things that reveal an applicants true characterisics.

well alina, you mentioned that ECs are a part of your personality. A lot of the people that posted told us their ECs. Therefore we also get to see their personalities. I don’t get while you’re getting annoyed at a thread “all about stats” if it includes personalities through ECs too.

im not getting annoyed in any form but i still do think that people are focusing a little too much on the stats…for example this is the original thread…where are the ECS…i guess people could list them under other but still…and im not trying to start a fight here or anything…but honestly since such threads go around…i recommend just a reformat…but i myself an not sure of what will go in there in order to truly encapsulate an applicant…i just wanted to make sure that ppl were aware of the other side of things :)

[li] Other interesting/helpful factors: I’ve visited the school a bunch of times and have had a lot of counselors who have gone there[/li]**General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I’m extremely happy to be part of the class of 2010![/ul]

with a fantastic observation like that, you should have applied to harvard. duh. i mean come on. first, who wants to go to college wtih a bunch of squares. next, who wants to be known as a college for a bunch of squares. you got to pick the people that will make your life enjoyable and interesting. then again, you got to pick the 2400’s that will balance out the average SAT. it’s all relative…

i know that its not a “discovery” but it just seemed that people didnt get it from the beginning…but anyways…yes its true colleges do accept both 2400s and some 1800s to balance it out…it is all relative…i agree

i know, i’m just breaking your balls, metaphorically speaking. i totally agree with you. there’s no way it’s just scores. and i think that’s probably the best thing that the ivy league has every come up with. college life is way more than just the school. unlike any other college though, we’re going rock out, and still have an ivy league education. go us.

its weird to hear how much of a party school Dartmouth is…kinda odd for an ivy but makes sense for the location…well see how it goes.

soo are we done here??
