Our final exam was so freaking easy, I got a 78% on it! Yay! If only I could have done that well on the AP Exam. Please Dear God give me at least a 3 I will be blessed and become a better person.

Well, the grading should be done today, so hopefully we’ll hear about the graders and how they felt about this years exam.

@gatorboy426: Do you by any chance know when scoring guidelines and all that good stuff will be posted online?

You should probably keep an eye on Trevor Packer’s Twitter. He’s been giving scoring distributions on all the exams. Sometimes, he talks about whether or not certain FRQ questions gave the students a lot of trouble. However, AP Chem was one of the last exams to be graded, so we’ll probably have to wait until near the end of next week.

Oh, and I know this is a bit late to be asking this, but for question 1 on the FRQ, for the first question if I just listed the pH as 1, would I still get the point?

^You’ll lose 1 point on that problem for a significant figures error.

I thought so. But I don’t even remember at this point so whatever.

Is it time to enter “freaking the ***** out” mode seeing July 1 is rapidly approaching?

Pretty much.

im terrified for this score. i was doing great on practice ap’s and then this exam killed me. and my teacher’s expecting a 5 and honestly, i studied so hard for this consistently throughout the year that i’ll be devastated if i dont get a 5

do you guys think that the cutoff for a 5 went up? because there were fewer 5’s this year according to trevor packer’s twitter post

“In AP Chemistry, fewer 1s, fewer 5s, more 2s. AP Chem scores, 2011: 16.2% = 5; 18.5% = 4; 19.6% = 3; 14.8% = 2; 30.9% = 1. May shift a bit.”

“Many AP Chemistry students performed best on Q4 (Reactions/Equations) and least well on Q3 (Hydrogen Fuel Cell).”

i cant believe they graded so harshly even though the frqs were like impossible

It could have also meant that fewer people made the cutoff score. I mean, the FRQs pretty much made or broke you this year, and we don’t even know how the MC was graded.

Does anyone around here happen to know someone who was an AP grader? Maybe they can provide some clarity on the whole situation.

As for me, I’ll be happy if I just get a 4.

yea thats a likely possibility considering the frqs but does the cutoff usually go up a lot suddenly? or is it relatively constant? like isnt it usually around 100? could it go up to 110? (i know i asked this on another thread, just trying to get more answers)

According to the 2008 grading worksheet, 100 is the cutoff for a 5. Of course, it might be different this year.

If it is still 100, then you would need to have done pretty well on both the MC and FRQ. And since the FRQ was harder this year, that would be why there are less 5s.

how rigorous is the course, I plan on taking this upcoming year as a sophomore, and AP Biology was pretty intense
so I’m questioning whether I should take AP Chemistry…

@MisterMIT It all depends on which teacher you have. Our AP Chemistry course is pretty much the zombie class (meaning it is difficult, even more so than AP Bio). Ask students from your school who have taken the course and go from there. I took it as a sophmore, and though it was torture in the form of a titration (hah!), I’m very glad I took it.

I know I have firmly secured a 4, but that elusive 5 is making me want to cry…

Oh, and just to cut some tension…

This thread has OVER 9000 views! 70,63x to be more specific :)

Haha, I actually understood your “it was torture in the form of a titration” pun XD. I already bought some prep AP exam books so I can begin studying some Chemistry this summer. Obviously i shouldn’t rely on them, but a quick overview before the class might seem to help
And Thank you, I will talk to some people who already took them exam :D

I’m scared!

im terrified…yet i want these scores already!

Can we see the scores online on Friday or how long does it usually take to get the mailed scores?
