Calc AB: 5 (4 months w/ Khan Academy and the Peterson’s Book)

Psychology: 5 (used a textbook, read that and a prep book last summer, reviewed prep book and flashcards starting spring break at end of March up until AP test)

physics C (both):5
used apphysicslectures.com and the review book by mooney along with 5 or so practice tests for each subject in addition to previous knowledge from physics b

Psych: 5 Barron’s + crash course
Environmental: 5 PR

APES-5 used PR pretty much

Human Geography - 5

Used Barron’s about a month before

I haven’t got my scores yet, but I’m pretty sure of straight 5’s:

Euro-Crash Course, PR, CB Practice Tests

World-Barrons, PR, CB Practice Tests, Online Resources

Human Geo-PR, Online Resources

Physics C: PR, CB Practice Tests

Euro History - 5 - used “a history of the modern world” by Palmer, Colton, and Kramer, as well as some prep books I found lying around. I started Euro during Christmas break, though really didn’t seriously cover the material until about a month before the test. (I would highly recommend the Palmer book, it is a truly BEAUTIFUL history book).

Macroeconomics - 5 - used an upcoming but as yet unpublished econ textbook written by a research mentor.

Microeconomics - 5 - same as macroecon. I started both of these around March.

US government - 5 - I did essentially nothing for government. Took the practice test on the CB website and I only missed one question there, on iron triangles. I googled what an iron triangle was, and I was done - just showed up for the test.

APES-5. Read PR once during the summer and kinda not really skimmed it the week before and did the 2008 released exam. Felt terrible after the late exam, but I miraculously 5’d it.

Eng Lang-5. Didn’t do anything other than do SAT CR.

Chinese-5. Native speaker.

Music Theory-5 composite, 5 aural, 4 non-aural. 11 years piano experience, 10 years violin experience.

Language-5-SAT CR Studying was only preparation.

ES-5-Read PR book cover to cover week before late test.

Calc AB-5-Two years of reading random calc related wikipedia articles and a week of skimming PR review supplemented with released exams.

Euro – 5

Read PR in September, did all the CB released tests, and read McKay’s “A History of Western Society” during spring break.

Chemistry - 5, I used the Thinkwell videos. If you are self studying this course, USE THINKWELL VIDEOS. The professors there are AMAZING. The teaching is simply excellent. And you learn the material in a lot of depth. I also used the Barron’s and the Princeton Review, but beware of errors in the books! I would also suggest a textbook as a side aid. I used lots of FRQs online and went to chemmybear.com (i think??). There are tons of online resources that tell you how to tackle the chemical equations bit. A combination of great/solid teaching (thinkwell) + actual test practice helped me a lot. To be honest, I only studied for about 1-2 months. However, I did have background chem knowledge before.

Physics B - 5. I took physics before, but I barely knew anything about it. I was being lazy and did not take the initiative to study on my own, despite the fact that the teacher did not teach. I had zero understanding of the concepts. Therefore, I self studied again this year and re-taught myself all the concept on my own. I simply used some of Princeton’s and went over ALL of Barron’s. (I mean…literally ALL) Then I found myself some actual test practice online. I studied for about 4-5 days (but assume that i studied for about 10-12 hours per day…yeahh). Guys. DON’T DO THIS. I pulled it off in a short amount of time, but it SUCKED. SPREAD IT OUT OVER TIME.

I could NEVER imagine self-studying without the class…I mean, I’ve taught myself concepts before but there was always the motivation in that the class was actually gonna appear on my transcript.

To all of you who self-studied and passed (and with 5s!!), that’s friggin amazing to me…good job :D

4 - Comp. Gov. I don’t remember how long I studied, but I guess however much it was, it wasn’t enough xD. Read through Ethel Wood more than twice, would be my suggestion. And obviously, don’t cram. Well actually, cram, but also study before.

I really hope I got a 5 on AP Psych. A lot of people told me that they did it the night before, but I’m glad I didn’t follow the same path as I would have been screwed.

Bio - 4; studied about 2 weeks
Enviro - 4; did not study at all; did not take same year as Bio
Physics c both 4s - skimmed through review book since I had taken Physics B already
Lit/Lang - 5s ; no studying though I took the class which didn’t prep us at all

AP Human Geography-5; studied for about 2 months :P

Well this is kind of embarrassing since everyone else is getting 5’s but:
AP Spanish Language (Non-Native Speaker): 4
Walked in their thinking it’s be a 5 but then walked out thinking it’d be a 4 because I screwed up half of my recording when I didn’t hear a beep and they wouldn’t let me take it. (There were like 596838 kids in the room with me)
Im a sophomore and took one year of spanish language before. I guess i’ll just retake for a 5 next year.

Study Tips: Read BBC Spanish News everywhere starting from September.
Memorized 600 some verbs and their definitions (just the infinitives) from users.ipfw.edu/jehle/verblist.htm about a week before the test
about three weeks before the test started to say everything in Spanish (even if it was in a round about way) before I said it in English. THIS MEANS EVERYTHING EVEN BEFORE I ANSWERED A QUESTION IN ENGLISH CLASS!

ohh and I PRAYED LIKE CRAZY BEFORE DIALING THE SCORES BY PHONE NUMBER <3

pm me if you need any help for next year

How many tests do you guys think is the max that can be effectively self-studied in one year (alongside 4 ap classes, if that makes a difference)? Sorry to use this thread but it seemed relevant. Your tips are going to be helpful next year

U.S. Gov & Pol. - 4 ; studied Crash Course for a day. Nothing else, lol.
