@Chrysanthemum14 do u remember what section it CR/Math was? If my section 9 was Cr and section 8 M, which section will not be counted
Other than the Easter Island passage, what was on section 8/9 CR?
¨The time allotted for a specific math or reading section — either section 8 or 9, depending on the edition - was incorrect in the student test books but correct in the script and manual provided to test center supervisors. ¨
¨ the College Board and ETS have determined that the affected sections will not be scored ¨
From the CB website. Although ambiguous, this implies both. One cannot have 2 CRs & 3 Ms scored while another has 3 CRs & 2 Ms scored.
@Chrysanthemum14 based in their Twitter hey have stated that that is possible where there can be differences in scoring. Out of curiosity @Chrysanthemum14 which section had the error in your test and was it Cr or M?
I am just trying to figure out which section of mine will not count 8 which was math or 9 which was CR.
@AmbitiousOrange Section 8 - CR
Wait, how do we know which section will be invalidated, then? Personally, I don’t remember seeing a misprint but I know I got extra time on math but not reading. How can they invalidate only one section? It doesn’t make any sense because the reason they’re invalidating the section is because some people got more time but I’m pretty sure my math didn’t have a misprint. I think my reading did, though, but we got extra time for math but not reading. Which would be invalidated??
Yeah, it’s only one of two. The thing on the website said “…to provide valid and reliable scores even with an additional unscored section.” When it talked about “affected sections,” it just meant that it would only be discarding those that are affected for each individual test-taker. Really hoping my CR won’t be scored…
@Chrysanthemum14 so ur section 8 had the misprint and section nine was fine?
Did everyone notice an error of on their math or their critical reading?!
My section 9 CR had the mistake but math was fine
Crap, I want my CR graded.
I really hope they are only taking out CR (easter island section) but I do not think this is the case because each person has different test forms so the error affects math sections for some and CR sections for others. Also, one of my friends called CB and they said they are taking out both. This is a big mess…
As far as I know…
Each test booklet had 1 section of CR that was supposed to have 20 minutes but was misprinted to have 25 minutes. No other section had the same misprint (everyone had Easter Island, why would people have the same questions but still have a different time printed?)
The 20 minute Math section had the correct time printed and was also the same for everyone.
What differed, however, is the order of the Math and CR sections. In the SAT, the 20 minute CR (the one mistakenly labeled 25 minutes) and the 20 minute Math are always randomly assigned to either Section 8 or Section 9 in each test booklet. Every student in a certain testing room does not have this same order, so when Section 8 came along, some students had a CR section that said 25 minutes while others had a Math section that said 20 minutes.
So far I know of 3 different outcomes:
(1) Proctors give out no extra time, the correct outcome.
Students did not notice the misprint and did not inform the proctor. Some proctors were familiar with the SAT’s format and knew that the 25 minute was an error. Some followed strictly the proctor’s manual. Some proctors called the College Board for more information, and they were informed that there was an error. Because of this, some student’s finish time had to be adjusted halfway through Section 8.
(2) Proctors give out 5 extra minutes total.
Some proctors gave 25 minutes despite the incongruity on Section 8. On Section 9, either no students with the affected CR section noticed the misprint or the proctor was informed of the error before Section 9 but after Section 8, making Section 9 a 20 minute section.
(3) Proctors give out 10 extra minutes total.
On Section 8, the students with the CR sections tell the proctor about the 25 minutes despite the fact that students with the Math section have 20 minutes written in their booklet. The proctor changes the end time to have 5 more minutes.
On Section 9, the students who had Math for the last section now have the misprinted CR section and inform the proctor of the time. The proctor once again changes the end time by adding 5 more minutes, despite other students having 20 minute sections.
If the College Board ends up cancelling only 1 section, it still doesn’t fix the problem that students with outcome 3 had 5 extra minutes on the other section.
I feel like the mistake made was exusivse to the CR section itself. Because there are two forms. @lionbeast form had error on critical reading (section 9) while @Chrysanthemum14 had an error on CR of section 8.
@y0l0lsen was the h(x) question the parabola or the weird graph with the zig zag lines?
@kelika Zig-zag.
CB EDITED THEIR STATEMENT:
“The time allotted for the last reading section was incorrect in the student test books but correct in the script and manual provided to test center supervisors. The copy in the student test books indicated “25 minutes” while the manual and script indicated the correct time limit of “20 minutes.” Because of the way the SAT is administered, while the misprint appeared in the last reading section, students may have been taking the last math section in the same room at the same time, and also would be affected.”
“After a comprehensive review and statistical analysis, the College Board and ETS have determined that the last reading and last math sections will not be scored”
This was not on here an hour ago so yes I think it’s confirmed that BOTH will be deleted.
what if neither of my sections had the error? nothing happened in my room. either no one said anything, no one noticed(which i doubt, since my room had 25+ people in it although if there was an error I didn’t notice it), or there was no error at all. I don’t think the batch of books in my room(maybe even my whole test center) had the error. I didn’t even know that this all happened until monday morning when people at school mentioned it
@Chrysanthemum14
I had an earlier version of the webpage open and that was not on there. Most likely some ninja editing from the CB.
