***Official 2015 June SAT (US Only) THREAD***

why are people even BRINGING UP the PSAT?!!! it’s completely irrelevant. firsy off, the psat is based on FIVE sections and it doesnt even include the essay in the scoring. even if were to have one or two sections omitted for this test, the PSAT CURVE COULDNT APPLY. think people. god.

^the writing will have the normal SAT curve since it was not affected, but CR and M now have the same questions as PSAT M and CR so I dont think it will be much different from that

@lolokcollege

There were originally 67 cr questions and 54 math questions. getting rid of one 24-question cr section and one 16-question math question leaves 48 cr questions and 38 math questions to be scored, just like on the psat.

i personally don’t think they will score it like this (psat curve is too harsh to maintain similar percentiles across exams), but people have a lot of valid reasons to believe they will.

and YES @taw1020 is COMPLETELY correct on the position that these analysts already know an infinite more amount on this than we do. if scores are “significantly” lower than other scores or then we anticipate, there’s already something wrong. these test makes curve EACH test differently with a DIFFERENT curve each to guarantee that the curve yields equal results for each test. THUS, these people who are rescoring our tests aren’t going to only give a handful of perfect scores or high scores if other tests in the past have received more than that. they will look at previous percentiles and scale our test based on that. so if previous tests have usually resulted 100,000 of the 500,000 test takes have yielded above a 90%, then the same must be yielded for this test. please stop overreacting people.

Yes, CB will probably not make the curving bad because people are going to be even more outraged

I’m just praying for a 2300 lol

Haha I just hope -1 math is a 770 so I can superscore 740cr 770m 770w

I’m hoping they will just extrapolate and apply the usual curve.

(though there’s no doubt that will anger students who did better on sections 8 and 9)

Do you guys think the CB will release another update today at 5:30??

@lionbeast exactly. i was telling this to some people in my school today who were overreacting. if everyone receives horrible scores, there will only be more retaliation. college board isn’t stupid. it’s a business. and as a successful business, they’re not going to upset their customers even more for THEIR mistake. if anything, i think this test will yield slightly better scores.

Also, how are they going to work out the math percentages? like 15-20% Functions, 10% probability, etc… by taking away one of the math sections. The percentages just will not work out!

3 minutes till a possible update from the CB

@FtheCB

is there a reason they would need to, though? (maintain the percentages)

“the SAT is designed to collect enough information to provide valid and reliable scores even with an additional unscored section.”

they don't seem to think it matters much

this situation is really a mess. no way to please everyone. hopefully something like this won’t occur in the future

@FtheCB yeah I mentioned the percentages thing earlier but CB is just saying that the SAT is designed to work with only 2 sections so they wont have make another exam for 400,000+ students and lose money. I am remaining skeptical until CB releases more information.
because lets be honest the the percentages of each topic in math is skewed even if it is asmall amount

@cityonanocean U belive that spew from the CB? They’re trying to cover up… it’s not possible to keep the same percentages they put out in their official review.

Same @lionbeast I look forward to another update – maybe 1-2 minutes from now

@FtheCB

Oh, to clarify what I meant was not that CB means they’ll maintain the percentages.

what i meant was that CB thinks it doesn’t matter if the sections contain diff topics

It’s 5:30pm and no update… i guess they’re not updating.

@cityonanocean oh got u

I guess they’re not posting an update :’(
