***Official 2015 June SAT (US Only) THREAD***

Hey how did you guys gwt to know ur essay score? I can’t seem to find that on the sat scores page :confused:

@nimbooda14 dont go through collegeboard.org/mysat Go through the first link on SAT Scores – SAT Suite | College Board. There will be a button on the left that says SAT scores. You should be able to see your most recent SAT scores here with the essay score.

I hate the fuss about “fewer questions so harsher score”. Ok, -2 for math is usually like 750, this time its 730. 20 points isn’t going to impact an admissions counselor’s decision. That’s also assuming you got 100% in the other section, you might have made a simple mistake. Even if you didn’t, its only 20 points lower. No big deal.

@ErenYeager The fuss is probably a little exaggerated. Nevertheless, the misprint was a big problem that is unforgivable. Regarding the reliability of scores, they probably are valid for most test takers. I would say, though, they won't be exactly the same for all students, especially those in the 700s. I think the reaction is exaggerated by some, but a retake should probably be offered for fairness.

One quick thought…the math and critical reading sections of this SAT were of the same length as the PSAT. Hence, College Board almost had to say that these scores are reliable. Otherwise, it would be admitting that PSAT scores are not reliable. Just a thought.

I agree! They should at least offer a retest in the summer to accommodate their mistake. The College Board claims they are nonprofit, but it is really us that are not making any profit. What a scam, taking money out of students’ pockets and not even making up for that mistake in an appropriate manner.

How can I see the percentile of my SAT score? plz help

CR 650
M 550
W 720 (69 MC, 10 essay)

…well, at least I know what I need to focus on for October xD

Is this a good score for a first timer going into it blind? (an idiot move, obviously, considering i’ll be a senior in the fall)

@mastersat it’s the percent next to the scores

or you could just google a percentile chart

You know what I don’t get? How the SAT is standardized–according to the following url, there were 4 different essay prompts on that day:

https://professionals.collegeboard.com/testing/sat-reasoning/prep/essay-prompts

Now to some of you I may sound stupid, but I didn’t know of this before. I thought that everyone got the same prompt–because hey, it’s not called a “standardized” test for nothing.

what percentile is 2310? i can only find percentiles for individual sections like cr writing

@y0l0lsen
99th

@Aleksandr7 I think it’s standardized because they are judged with the same metrics… a 6 essay about prompt A will use the same skills as a 6 essay about prompt B. My English teacher told us that when they are training readers for AP essays (so not SAT but I imagine training is remotely similar), they will have all of the readers read and score the same essays until they are all getting the same numbers every time.

Plus, all of the prompts are more or less the same difficulty and level of vagueness… yes, sometimes you get lucky and there is one that you have good examples for, but it’s the same level of randomness for every person if that makes sense. One could also argue that multiple prompts are necessary to minimize cheating.

Ultimately, the subjective nature of scoring an essay (rather than completely objective multiple choice questions) means that the essay portion can never be completely standardized, but I think the system they have is the most standardized one possible.

@16elir Good points.

Score:
M: 800
W: 800
CR:700
Total: 2300

Do high selective colleges such as UPenn, Stanford, etc. care about your SAT individual subscores or just your overall SAT score? For example, will my 700 in critical reading set of any alarms for an admissions officer that will make them consider my SAT as low and hurt my chances even though my overall score is high?

@kuma184 I think that is a decent score for going in cold. People almost always do better the second time. Math does not appear to be “your thing,” but increasing from a 550 should be relatively easy. Having a natural mathematical insight is helpful for the math section, but working through tons of practice problems in the blue book is the best thing to do for math in my opinion. The thing that seriously screws people (even “math people”) over when it comes to the SAT math section is making simple, careless mistakes. Be very careful not to do this, as it can hurt your score dramatically. If you have 5 minutes to spare, do not be lazy, and check your work for every problem. Do not fall for the distractions on some of the questions, for example the bolded dots on the minimum absolute value question on this SAT, which made some people chose 2 instead of 0. Also, read diagrams carefully, and do not make assumptions about them. Make sure you are finding what the question asks.
Your writing score is already solid but can still be increased with more practice–writing scores are easy to increase. You could probably get in the high-700 to 800 range. You seem to have the essay down.
CR scores are very difficult to increase, at least for me. I am NOT a CR person, and happened to get lucky this time with a 700. I got a 590 on the PSAT and a 600 the first time I took it the SAT. I remained in the low-mid 600s until now. The only advice I can give you on this is to pretend you are incredibly interested in the passage and the topic. I did that this time and found I wasn’t losing focus and reading the same lines over and over again like I was on previous SATs. I never thought I would be able to get to 700 on CR…it just didn’t seem possible to me.

@steph5913 i went to SAT Scores – SAT Suite | College Board and saw the list of colleges i sent my score to, then on the left i saw an SAT scores option, under which it showed my test date and available next to it…i clicked the available link…it lead me to the same page as i visited when i checked my scores earlier

@nimbooda14 Wait, my mistake. You were actually supposed to click on the link in the yellow box from the homepage of collegeboard but its gone now. Just wait till tomorrow and go on “understand your test performance” to see the score.

for my writing score it said 78/80 but there were only 49 questions? (35 in one section 14 in other) so how does the 80 work.
Also what is a better score 2310 on sat or 34 act?

I still haven’t received my scores!! UGHHH!!!

@y0l0lsen
The 78 is your MC score.
2310 is better I think. But not that much.
