Yeah, I think they are only deleting a single section.
Quote from their press release:
"Q: How is it possible to not score a whole section and still have valid scores?
To accommodate the wide range of incidents that can impact a testing experience, the SAT is designed to collect enough information to provide valid and reliable scores even with an additional unscored section. From fire drills and power outages to mistiming and disruptive behavior, school-based test administrations can be fragile, so our assessments are not.
We have deliberately constructed both the Reading and the Math Tests to include three equal sections with roughly the same level of difficulty. If one of the three sections is jeopardized, the correlation among sections is sufficient to be able to deliver reliable scores."
Their diction appears to denote that only one section, not multiple, will be affected, but I may be wrong.
We can always email them.
@jackrabbit14 The link has been posted multiple times
https://lp.collegeboard.org/information-regarding-the-saturday-june-6-sat-administration
“All students who took the SAT on June 6 in the United States are affected.”
What CR and Math problems were on Section 8/9?
@Chrysanthemum14 that’s not what I meant. Are they invalidating 1 or 2 sections? - as in
8 and 9 or
either 8 or 9?
@Kazoo98 ^^
I think that both math and CR are cancelled. It says “affected sections,” and it would make sense since some students were given the extra 5 minutes for both.
@jackrabbit14
“The time allotted for a specific math or reading section — either section 8 or 9, depending on the edition — was incorrect in the student test books but correct in the script and manual provided to test center supervisors.”
“College Board and ETS have determined that the affected sections will not be scored”
It looks like BOTH will be deleted.
I hope they cancel both, I put 320 as the answer for that question, since I used 55x4 instead of 60
@Chrysanthemum14 the math section had a parabola question.
@jackrabbit14 Well everyone in the same room did not have the same version. As we saw people had more time on both 8 and 9, so CB cannot keep either.
“The time allotted for a specific math or reading section — either section 8 or 9, depending on the edition — was incorrect in the student test books but correct in the script and manual provided to test center supervisors.”
Both sections therefore had errors somewhere, and cannot be used.
WOO! I skipped like 4 math problems in Section 8! I did so well on every other section of the Math! PHENOMENAL for my math score. However, my reading was the strongest in Section 9… How will my score be affected?
@aznboi4981 Hope you did well in the other two sections, I suppose.
@Chrysanthemum14 CR was Eastern Island. Math had the pyramid and parabola.
@ Chrysanthemum14 the critical reading passage on section 8 was about how the statues were moved. Also, are both sections removed from everyone’s score or is it the section that had an error?
Section 8 Math Questions:
- Parabole (with the minimum of 5)
- Pyramid with the surface area of 340
Section 8 CR Questions:
@relaxer06 Wow, I think a lot of people are going to be happy about the Easter Island one being removed. Easily the most difficult passage.
I am calling them now to figure out.
@xxx12cc I thought this was discussed a minute ago. Yes it seems both sections will not count.
@Chrysanthemum14 I personally felt that was the easiest since I had read an article that is similar, if not, exact to the first passage on Easter Island. The one about the biography was harder. (That may have been my experimental.)
@Chrysanthemum14 I definitely am. I felt confident on the other CR but not so much on the Eastern Island. My timing may have been thrown off with all of the distraction from the timing issue, but I still think it was the hardest CR.
If 1 wrong math is now something like -50/60 total pts rather than -20/30… That would suck hahaha
