***Official 2015 June SAT (US Only) THREAD***

@Defeat Good for you. Just your capacity of solving it should be good enough.
Regardless of if you spent 2 hours on a question that the guy next to you spent 2 minutes on.

Hey so for the question for the answer of 92% was that experimental I kind of lost track :-S

no that wasn’t @sIronMan

The thing is: this is my first “Official” SAT (and of course they have to screw it up). I’m usually best at CR - on my last practice test I got two out of three sections without errors. Math is my weakness, and I was trying to work especially hard on that, but I only ended up getting a 600 on my last practice test.
I’m pretty sure I’ll be getting a near-perfect score in CR and a decent score in Writing (I bombed the essay - hoping for a 6 or 7), but Math… [-O< … If they decide to use a hard curve I’m so going to ask my parents to let me retake the test.

If y’all juniors think you’re in a bad situation, hear me out.
So I do pretty badly on math on the SATs because I consistently make dumb math mistakes (2*3 is 5, right??) thanks to how acutely I feel time pressure on the math sections. However, I studied my behind off for math, because my score after my first test was 130 points behind my CR/W scores (this was expected, though). My second exam in November exam turns out to have the harshest curve I’ve ever heard of for math (-3 = 670). At this point, it was too late to register for the December exam once I got my November scores, and the January exam was cancelled completely due to snow (I live in MA). “Oh well,” I say to myself, “hopefully my reaches- it was then I realized that the competitive colleges I applied to are really the only ones that fit me (VERY poor planning on my part)- can look past this mediocre (relatively speaking) math score.” They didn’t. Not saying that’s the only factor, but it definitely contributed IMO.

So here I am, taking a gap year (this was a personal decision; I was not shut out completely), and intending to apply to new colleges. I’m going to Spain, so I physically can’t take the SATs after the June administration. I study my behind off again because I know this is my last shot…and THIS happens! It feels like Murphy’s law. I know now this curve is going to be ridiculous and a repeat of November.

TLDR:
-I somehow have the worst luck with SATs
-Try both the SAT and the ACT because you never know!
-Your reaches shouldn’t be the only schools on your list that fit you- advice for all you juniors out there

Anyway…wish me luck on the ACTs next weekend! I’m relying on them at the moment!

@lionbeast wow you’re in EXACTLY the same position position as me, we got the same score (720 CR, 700 M, 780 W) and I wanted to superscore my math and reading. I also got one math question wrong and I would’ve been content with a 770 but if it’s lower I’m going to be very concerned, I was really counting on math to bring my score up since CR is not my strong point

@Qwerty568 I feel you man. Good luck on the ACT you’ll do fine. If you’re good at reading and writing then you basically aced the ACT!

CollegeBoard just tweeted me that the decision about cancelling sections 8 and 9 was FINAL, so I don’t think we have to be anxious about them changing it.

question: do you think that this will affect likelihood of being selected as a candidate for the U.S. Presidential Scholars? And will colleges think less of you if you do well but it’s on this screwed up one?

was 92% on the grid ins like number 8 percent change?

@Qwerty568 God dammit -3 = 670 M?! I agree, this test might end out like that (when it shouldn’t have if CB did its job right…) but if it does (say -1 is 730 M) I am switching to the ACT. Good luck on you ACT this weekend man.

@lilypippili Me too. I don’t think I can get my CR up much higher so a 770 M would totally be great (770 is almost no different from 800 in many colleges viewpoint) but if its lower I am going to be extremely disappointed, especially if it is because of a mistake on CB’s side.

Hey,
do you guys remember if the question…
5= ax+bx+c and x=2 (asking for possible value of a) was on the 25 min or the 20 min section?
btw those numbers r prob totally off from the original question

@lalaland123456 yeah its getting taken out

To be honest, we all know taking out section 8 and 9 will make this June SAT different even if CB states otherwise. Different problems are on the sections and each math topic is tested on all 3 sections. Taking out 1 math section means that some topics may not be tested or not tested enough as they were supposed to. For example, Data Analysis, Probability, and Statistics is 6-7% of the Math sections according to the official CB website. Taking out one section skews these percentages (unlike PSAT which is already scaled beforehand). Thus, doing either a extrapolation-prediction method/average or PSAT scale is very FLAWED. I am seriously worried on how CB will grade (curve) by taking out these 2 sections

@lionbeast Yep, that’s what the curve was in November. -1 was a 750. I absolutely lost it when I got my scores because I thought I had crushed it (The first time I took it, I got 8 wrong and omitted one and still got a 650, so when I walked out “only” getting 3 wrong I was sure I would get a 710 or something).

Can anyone remind me what is the reading section that they will not score about?

guys. im telling u. i think this test will yield higher test scores. especially because CB knows if they give a harsh curve in ADDITION to a messed up test, people will flip out! if people get better/good scores than there will be less chaos and retaliation. they’re not stupid. so dont expect a -50 for 1 math q wrong.

5 minutes is a lot, that’s a 25% increase.
Also, here’s their plan I think:

Probably a stupid question, does the experimental section count towards your score?

Anyone remember which section the MILK = 90 math question was on?
