so 78/99 is not an accurate??

I have no clue, there is a pending question on the teacher community about this issue. I’d like to think that they used composite and not the unweighted raw score.

I remember that FRQs from previous years would have a “maximum” of 10 points able to be earned (e.g. there was a potential to score 12 or 13, but the absolute cut-off would be at 10 out of 10). Does that apply to the larger FRQs this year?

Yes it does

^on the practice exam, more points were available than could be awarded, I assume the same for the 2013 test.

Anyone have any idea what composite score correspond to a 5?

^ There is a pending question on the teacher community about this, I hope it’s answered soon.

Earlier in the post it does say that an example of a 5 score would be 47/58 MC+grid-in and 31/41 fr with 8/10 8/10 3/4 3/4 3/4 2/3 2/3 2/3, this equals a composite score of 94.0443/120. rounds to 94/120 = 78.3333% (repeating). Maybe 94 points was the cutoff. Will report back.

I just find it unfair that students are being punished (score-wise) because of teachers’ lack of knowledge about the exam. My AP Bio teacher has won awards due to her apparently outstanding work in Biology education but she did not inform my peers and I about the new exam format at all or the new subsets of knowledge we had to learn. She essentially taught us last year’s curriculum. This happened across several schools in the county I reside in and - I mean this in the least pretentious way possible - we are known for our academics across the country. They could have at least made the score rate comparable to last year’s. The fact that around 19% got 5’s last year while only 5% are getting 5’s this year irks me. If we were prepared for the new exam to the best of our ability and still faltered, fine, but the lack of clarity in College Board’s new expectations as well as the lack of dissemination of that knowledge to teachers (and then students) makes it way more messy.

Also, I laugh at the sentiment that the timing didn’t negatively student performance. I can’t generalize, but practically no one at my school finished on time, except for those who gave up halfway. Hopefully AP Bio teachers will prepare their kids better for next year, as we were the guinea pigs and suffered horribly as a result.

Here’s the 2008 released exam https://myportal.bsd405.org/personal/raoj/apbiorao/AP%20Bio%20Released%20Exams/2008%20Released%20Exam.pdf
The curve for that was a 63% for a 5, still don’t see any way that exam was 16% harder than ours… it looks super easy.

Is there any chance that collegeboard is going to lower the cutoff for 5…

^there’s no chance. CB is way too stubborn and convinced that if something doesn’t seem right, it’s everyone’s fault but theirs.

They actually believe that they did a good job in informing us and the teachers about the test so some say the curve will be harsher…

hey guys i know the ap score is not out yet but I am so worried cuz I think I may be at the boundary between 4 and 5. I love biology and I want to major biology at college. But if I get 4 or lower on ap bio, would it decrease my chance to get into competitive schools including IVYs as a biology major? Well, the problem is I am now a senior and AP bio is the only AP class I took at my school where only a few AP classes are offered (I took both AP Economics but I highly doubt I will put the score on my app cuz I am positive that I failed.) Plus, I live in Egypt where the high school internship or research opportunities are very rare. I do not have any fantastic activity about bio like you guys.

By the way, when can we get out scores? I know its available to everyone July 8th but on the website it says that there is early-access to your scores. What does that mean?

Wait!! Only 5.4% of all test takers got a 5! How is that possible?

^ Because the college board people are jerks.

Anyone here believe they got a 5?

I know for a fact that I didn’t get a 5. I’m pretty sure I got a 4 though

^ Same here, I think my essays should put me in the 4 range.
