Official AP Chemistry Thread (2014-2015)

@michelle426 that’s what I though lol! Thanks for confirming haha

3 days… Who’s ready to cry?

I got a 4!!!

My college doesn’t display them until later during the summer :(.

@Dorfdude8 gg

@Dorfdude8 lol west coast 1 week from now lelell

8.7% test takers got 5’s too…let’s see how this turns out XD

Keeping my fingers crossed for a 5… I know I got around 36-37/46 on the FRQ (35 if the rubric was insane) and am thinking I got at least a 45/60 on the mc (which could be 35/50 if I get really unlucky). The FRQ on acid/base titration destroyed me since we didn’t do any of that in class. We did it after the AP exam.

Really praying for a 4, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to get a 4… Gotta wait till the 10th for my scores

Do you guys think this years fr was easier than last years?

I’d guess the curve would be set similarly to last year with a 34/46 as a 5 on the FRQ.

@baseball2322 the curve last year was set at 31/46 due to the lack of time. This year, they added 15 more minutes to the FRQ section, so the curve should return to a normal 34/46.

What were you guys’ feelings after taking the test?

@michelle426 so the cutoff isn’t based on performance of students, but is set at 34 in stone?

@Mochis1 I think I’ll need a giant box of Kleenex on Monday XD

The curve is based on what statisticians and professors think students should get for a 5, and the difficulty of the exam usually remains consistent year to year.

@baseball2322 well technically its supposed to be consistent from year to year. So this year should be close to the curve as every year of the same exam. However interestingly, the re-normed standards mean that its not that we students don’t know the chemistry curriculum as well as pre-2014 students since based on % of 5 (8.4% 2015 vs 18.1 2013) it looks like it is, but that they simply made the curves harder. Sigh.

Does anyone know how many points the titration curve part of the acid/base question was worth?

I hope not many.

@glasshours i believe it was worth about 3-4 points on its own. It was an unusual curve no doubt (it’s not a standard weak base strong acid titration curve) because of its unusually low pKa. The sorbate ion is a very weak base, and the titration curve did mess a lot of people up.

My guess is 3. That’s 3 points that I didn’t get. I did well on the other FRQs though, and I got a 36-37/46 by my estimates. Combined with at least a 45/60 (probably 36-38/50) on the mc, I’m really hoping that I get a 5.
