Official AP Chemistry Thread (2014-2015)

Hi, does anyone have any ideas as to whether the curve will be likely to go up or go down for the cutoff for a 5 this year?

@Thatuser look at the previous replies. the cutoff for a five (and all subsequent scores) will go up this year because of the extra 15 minutes for the FRQ.

Can someone post all the predicted score percentage cutoffs for a 1-5? I know they’re all scattered throughout this thread, but I don’t want to scroll through 145 pages of posts to find a specific one other than for a 5 :stuck_out_tongue:

@polarknut Well, I’m pretty sure we agreed that 74-75 was going to be the cutoff for a 5…

Lol this is really late, but I just realized that like half my answers were incorrectly rounded… Like one question’s answer was 0.00434 moles but I think I put 0.00433. Do you think they counted off for those rounding mistakes?

@pillowspillows - I think they have +/- [some number], but I’m not sure

Sorry if this is repetitive, but are all FRQs weighed 1.0869? If we get a decimal value, we round up, right?

@glasshours Yup, so if your final raw score was a 75.678 that would round to a 76. But if it was a 75.468 that would round down to a 75.

@pillowspillows that’s completely fine. as long as you have the correct number of sig figs, and if you’re only off by one, then that’s fine (i.e. an accepted answer could be 0.59g but you couldve put .58g and you wouldve been fine)

@michelle426 but what about the cutoff for a 4 or 3 with the appropriate adjustments according the estimated scale for 2015?

@polarknut

      2014 “Cutoff”

5 72%

4 58%

3 42%

2 27%

1 < 27%

For 2015 I would assume maybe around +3

@pillowspillows yep. that looks about right.

I got a 4!!

how do you know??

How did you find out?! @berkeleybound98

It was on berkeley’s portal @perbler

Hey guys. I’m going to take the AP Chem next year. What do I need to know besides the topics in the curriculum? Any tips for the test?

What do you mean? @berkeleybound98

@Perbler all college bound seniors get to see their ap scores earlier because most colleges post them in their portals around this time.

@cavern101 for me the test was pretty easy, I do hope I get a five though (I am a science olympiad medalist for chem and my school’s semifinalist for USNCO, so idk if I should talk…). I think the topics on the curriculum are more than enough for what’s covered on the test (remember that they can only make so many questions with those topics). Sometimes the MC can be a little trivial, but only to the extent of around SAT 2 Chem level.

Fantastic! Thank you, @michelle426 and @pillowspillows.
