Official AP Chemistry Thread (2014-2015)

I got a 5.

@Mminjjae the advertising is strong with this one

Glad to see I’m not the only one who got molested here (I consider a 3 molestation). Seriously. Last year I expected a 2 on APUSH but got a 4, this year I expected a 4 on Chem and got a 3

asdflmaes, I’d say don’t ask the CollegeBoard to re-score it because AP is very accurate and measured with its scoring system.
How do I know?
I got a 2 on my AP Computer Science exam last year when I thought I got at least a 4 or 5. I asked for the re-score and got the exact same score…But I took it again this year and got a 5

@pillowspillows was that a star wars reference?

I legitimately thought I was gonna get a 2 (Left one and a half FRQ’s blank…), so I was a nervous wreck while installing a VPN on my phone to check (Live in CA), but I got a 4! Good luck to all you guys

If i wanted to apply to good colleges like uc berkeley or u chicago, would they be ok with a 3 on the ap chem exam?

@asdflmaeckm APs don’t really hold any weight in the application process.

@asdflmaeckm UC Berkeley accepts scores of 3 and up but yeah they don’t really hold a lot of weight during applications.

I’ve seen some videos about how admissions officers from top schools (namely, like Stanford) assess applicants based on profile (not essay). Top schools consider AP scores to at least a partial degree when assessing applicants. AP scores don’t hold a LOT of weight, but it’s in your best interest to score at least 4’s and 5’s, because that may potentially make the difference of being admitted or not, depending on how competitive the applications are for a school.

ez 5

@Fossie smae

Hiii! If anyone who took the class this year would be willing to PM me to answer some questions of mine (I"m considering taking it this upcoming year), then please do!

@sourthernbelle16 if you need any help, feel free to pm me.

@southernbelle16 same. You can pm me

So my school’s head AP Chem teacher posted the score distribution for my school this morning: 37% 5, 35% 4, 25% 3, 3% 2, 0% 1. We had approximately 210-220 kids take the exam this year. Boy oh boy would I like to strangle those 3% that failed the test. They cost us a 100% pass rate. And we usually have a higher percentages for 5s. What a shame. Heads up to those taking the class next year: realize that the possibility of getting a 5 is steadily decreasing. Work hard and you’ll do just fine.

Hi guys, I was wondering next year I am going to take the AP chem course and was wondering what things or tips/tricksI should do to prepare myself for the class and exam? Also if anyone is willing to share to me what exam book they got. For 2015-16 will the format still be the same? please PM thanks.

@Brick05 PM me if you need help/advice.

I scored a 4, which I am very happy with! A few of the schools I am looking at will only give credit for 5, but I don’t mind taking more sciences. My school has never had a 5, so I’m very happy with a 4! It’s a very difficult test, and a 4 will do just fine  Congrats to everyone who scored 5s, you should be so proud!

It is not a class to be scared of… If you are a good student with some intellectual capabilities you should have no problem obtaining a good score on the test. I never opened the textbook, and I got a 5… You will do fine.
