Official AP Chemistry Thread (2014-2015)

After reconsidering a lot of answers I’m now expecting about anywhere from 40+/50 on MC and hopefully at least 75% on FRQ. Wow, this is not looking good…

Wait actually I had form c
I thought it was pretty hard…
But everyone is talking about how o was hard… Oh no

oh I started praying to the curve goddess right after I left the exam room.

How much we have to score for each section to get a 5??

I’m guessing curve will be around 73%? Maybe 70% if its really generous. What i’m not sure about is if the different forms have different curves since it seems O was much harder. For me, FRQ was really easy I feel confident getting 80% on it. However, I think I did pretty badly on multiple choice and I’m hoping for 35-45

I’m feeling iffy about the exam. I feel like i got around 25-30 MC right and 40-50% of the FRQ… what score do you think that’d translate to?

How do you guys think you did? I had Form O and I thought I did terrible on the MC. I got approximately 25 I knew for sure were correct, 10-15 that I was meh about, and then the rest I was like: please help me, curve.
As for the FRQ I felt more confident about it since I was able to answer everything (except question 3 with the titration curve, I totally blanked) and it was easier than the mock AP FRQ that our teacher had us take.
I’m hoping to pass, but a 4 or 5 would be very nice :’)

Does college board really post the answers to the frqs within 48 hours? this is my first AP exam btw

@cb45cb45: I’m not too sure, but I highly doubt it. The make-up exam for this test is later on in the month, and I wouldn’t think they would post the answers to the FRQs so quickly (since they might pull out similar questions or just use the same test). I could be wrong, though, I’ve never heard of Collegeboard doing such a thing.

I would say at least a 3, maybe a 4 if the curve is good

I’m hoping a larger curve would be nice ;u;
Does anyone know what the curve for a 5 on the exam was last year?

I think it was a 72%

If anyone needs a confidence booster: I legitimately think I scored a 30% on the free-response section, and doubt I got a 40+ on multiple choice. Maybe 35 if I’m lucky.
Goodbye, chances of getting a 5 :frowning:

I got form O and frankly it wasn’t HORRIBLE-- I finished with a lot of time to spare and wasn’t rushed all the way through. I was unfamiliar with a lot of the material though (that photospectroscopy thing…what???) so I had to educatedly-BS my way through.

The FRQ long questions were a bit weird, I think I got like 4/10 on the cell one (that was totally unfamiliar territory, like electrolysis and galvanic cells were fairly easy for me but I’m the type of person who can’t make connections between two outwardly different things but have the same concept, I didn’t do great on a brand-new type of question). One of the FRQ (I think the 3rd one) was okay (the one about color or something) even though I barely knew what that spectrophotoscopy stuff was. I think I got maybe 6/10 on that (I totally guessed on the reaction order and bleach stuff…).

The MC was harder than what I’d expected though…there was a very large range of topics and the questions seemed very specific, which sucked since I’m better at reasoning and overall concept. There were a lot of seemingly random questions and even one which I was CONVINCED there was no correct answer for…I cried a bit out of frustration and moved on, lol.

In the end, I’m HOPING for 40+/60 on MC and a 30/46 on the FRQ…but I probably only got 35/60 on the MC and maybe 25/46 on the FRQ…which is BARELY a 4 and like 1% away from a 3 :frowning: I am a sophomore and self-studied, though, so I’d be extraordinarily grateful for just a 4 D:

Also, can someone clarify the case about the curve difference between forms? It seems ridiculous that the college board makes diffferent tests different difficulties (like what’s the point???), and in any case I thought the Ap exams weren’t graded by a curve but by a pre-set cutoff set of scores.

@kurehibo That score would be a solid 3, based on the 2014 cutoffs.

72% seems so high, looks like a 5 won’t be achievable even with a less harsh curve xD
@glasshours: I feel the same way. I feel like I did worse on the MC though, there was one whole section on titrations and I literally blanked out on the whole lab that our class did. That was a good 10 questions ._.

I know, I’m pretty bummed. I thought I was a lot more prepared than I really was. I guess we’ll just have to settle for a 4

I HATE how College Board bases 5-6 multiple choice questions on one passage/diagram. If you mix up one concept, you get the rest wrong, which I don’t think is fair for anything other than FRQs (only because you’re still given some credit).

Not allowed to talk about questions, but dig at that last set of questions where I screwed up the signs

Exactly! And if you don’t understand what the prompt/diagram/whatever is trying to say, the only thing that can be resulted to is simply guessing xD
That’s one of the things that really screwed me up on the MC. I’m still praying that it’s like a really huge curve because I think I did terrible on that XD

^I skipped a whole set of problems just because of that, and ended up just bubbling C for all of them. It was something to do with acids and bases and I didn’t get what the question was even talking about…but there goes my score, just because of one weird passage.

same!
also really don’t like these different forms, what if the people who are better at chemistry take one form more than the other…
