Official AP Chemistry Thread (2014-2015)

Okay thanks! I’m hoping it’s around the same despite the extra time they gave…

So form O free response will be up today? Does any one know what time?

AP Chemistry Students-

There have been significant discussion on this post regarding two different forms “O” and “C” for the recent AP Chemistry exam. Let me share the pain and help hoping to relieve the stress so everyone can focus on rest of the AP Exams for rest of this and next week.

Overall, there is method and process in place of “EQUATING” two different formats in scoring of tests despite what may legitimately be seen as perceivable differences in exam difficulty (O vs C forms in this case). With successful equating, the statistical procedure adjusts for differences in difficulty, so that the scores on the forms can be used interchangeably. The AP Program ensures that students’ scores are unaffected by which version of an exam the students took.

Relax and good luck with rest of the AP Exams. Go get those 3s, 4s and 5s. Best Wishes.

I’m part of the 3% that took O? squaddd

I got form O, and I thought the test was very… errrr ok. I know for a fact I probably got above 45 on the mc, and maybe max 10 points off on the FRQ. The hardest part for me was probably FRQ (esp. problem 3, but to my knowledge, I only got one part off so far), MC was ok, and the rest of the FRQs were very manageable, especially the short free response. Can I pull a five or no?

No, form O is the generic form for all AP exams. In my Calc exam, every other person had a different form, alternating between O and G; however, in chem my entire classroom had O.

@Threebrook How do you know all that information, and with how much certainty?

Same! SQUAD

yeah u got a five for sure.

I had Form E so there must of been a minimum of 3 formats. Also, it’s seems from reading this forum, talking to people in my school, and that they are releasing Form O that Form O must have been the generic version, not Form C.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:
I edited @Threebrook 's comment as I am also under the impression that form O is the generic form and there is no validation provided for the percentage of each form. If s/he wants to substantiate, be my guest, but in the interim, I’d rather not send these students spinning out of control.

The part about equalizing the scores among forms, however, is totally correct.

Here’s the College board stated position on split of two different forms as a general guidelines…

…“some schools in the United States will receive a version of the exam in selected subjects that is different from the most commonly administered version. In these cases, half of a given school’s students in the selected subject will take the most commonly administered version of the exam, and the other half will take the different version of the exam. Overall, only a small subset of students will take a different version of the exam on the regularly scheduled testing date — typically, these exams represent approximately 3 percent of the total number of U.S. exams administered on the regularly scheduled testing dates.”

FRQ are up. Discuss.

Dammit. So that’s form O? It looks ridiculously easy. My teacher focused a lot on these topics, which kind of explains why a lot people from my school said form O was decent or easy.

Of course I just had to be part of that ~3% and end up with C. GG.

“(f) The pH of the soft drink is 3.37 after the addition of the KC6H7O2(aq). Which species, HC6H7O2 or C6H7O2− , has a higher concentration in the soft drink? Justify your answer.”

I literally didn’t even see this part on my paper!!! I’m assuming the answer is HC6H7O2 because it dissociates into H+ and C6H7O2− and the H+ makes the pH less than 7

Where are they?

I said HC6H7O2 as well for that part

@apactstudent You are NOT the only person who did not see that on your FRQ; I can confirm 100% the last two questions about the bond angle for c-o and the ph of the soft drink was NOT on my FRQ!!! I saw the released frq and when I saw those two I was like wait what? I didn’t have those questions.

I would know because I circled each part on my frq question sheet and those questions were not there.

What the heck…?

By the way I literally made an account just to discuss the test lol
