**OFFICIAL April 2014 ACT (US ONLY)**

Just checked my scores!!!

English: 28
Math: 22
Reading: 32
Science: 25

Composite Score: 27 B-)

@stars5341‌ Well, the first time I took the Science in December, I have to say I sort of self-destructed. I hit a wall where I just didn’t know a few questions and I started to panic. On practice tests, I was scoring 34+, so the 29 was definitely atypical. Considering those circumstances, I didn’t really have to prep that much. I just needed to make sure that I remained calm and answered the questions methodically. I’m not sure if this was your situation on this test. Assuming it isn’t, I recommend practicing. Yep, practicing. That’s all it really is. Obviously you don’t need to memorize facts or anything to score well on the science section. You just have to become more familiar with the questions. Many people who score high use the 5,6,7 approach where they do all the question sets of 5 first, then 6, and so forth. I personally did not use this method, but hey I’m weird so…

If you want more practice, buy the PR 1296 questions book. It is essentially six practice tests.

Just saying I somehow jumped 7 points in science and I didn’t really use the 5-6-7 method. I would say to use this method: If a passage has 6 questions, finish in 5 min. If 7 questions, then finish in 6 min. Time urself by doing at least 1 section a day or every 2 days and it will help u trust me it did for me. If u follow that method then u will finish 2 or 3 min before time and u can use that time to check over uncertain ones

@collegeman5‌ Yeah that pretty much described me during the test. I also scored fairly high on practice tests…never a 29 haha when u took it did you read the passages first and then do the questions or read the questions, then go back to the passage? Thanks :)

Is there anyway I could check my writing early?

First time taking the ACT.

Composite: 31
English: 33

I’m not applying to any ivy schools, but does anyone think that this is good enough for most big 10 and state universities? If I take this again I don’t think that I will do better; however, I might try it one more time to bring up my science score for colleges that super score.

this was my third time taking the ACT, improved from a 27 :D.
I have a 3.7 W gpa. should I consider retaking if I want to get into good UCs (UC irvine, davis, san diego?)

@master1006‌ 7 pts? Nice! I didn’t use 5-6-7 either. I just know a lot of people who do.

@stars5341‌ This is highly subjective. I also think that this is where practice comes into play. If you take more practice tests (via another book like PR 1296 or online tests), then you’ll be able to find a strategy that works the best for you; this strategy would have to consistently allow for that high score you want. Personally, I read/skimmed the passages before answering the questions. For the passages where they compare point of views, I read thoroughly because every question requires knowledge used in the passage. Again, this is highly subjective, and I’m pretty sure people who have done either way have found success. Be careful about what date you select to take the ACT next. You want to be able to make sure you have a strategy solidified by that time.

Hey but to go back to my original question

Just wondering you guys. Have you started to think about what your top choice schools are? :)

Hey if ED for college is nov 1, what’s the last Act I can take in which the writing scores will be out and I will be able to send the whole score report before the deadline? And the report would reach said college before the deadline?

@Mlolo98‌ northwestern duh lol  for dat 32 ACT isn’t great but very near perfect unweighted gpa might put me up hoping hoping hoping hoping hoping hoping… lol

@master1006 GPA is wayyyyy more important (at least I’ve been told that by my college counselor)

I shoot for the stars – I’m thinking Binghamton.

@ckoepp127‌ beat you on that english though

Better than 34 in February, yay
Best tip for science is to skip straight to the questions. The reading only slows you down, and 2/3+ of the questions are just based on the graphs.
Can’t tell curves very well because I got a 16 and 18 on reading so I think curve is -3/4 for 33
