@beck3570‌ Yes you should be fine for the Big 10 and state schools unless you’re looking at Northwestern, UVA, UNC, Berkeley, etc. For those a 31 is good, but not spectacular. Nevertheless, 31 is pretty good and should get you into most schools.

I’d just like to say to anyone who is discouraged that is is truly possible to improve a lot! This time last year as a sophomore, I took the ACT and got a 26 composite. One year later as a junior, I got a 33. In between that, I got a 31, then dropped to a 30, so I felt pretty discouraged going into April. In my opinion, your mindset is the most important part! I didn’t study much but got my goal score. It’s much easier if you throw yourself into the test, be it reading passage or science graph. So good luck everyone, and it really is a relief to be done with the ACT.

This was my first time taking the test I got a composite score of 30.

This was right around what i expected to get since i had literally no preperation for the test. Im planning to prep this summer for either ACT or SAT depending on which i do better on (im scheduled to take the June SAT). I preferably like to raise my ACT score at least 2- 4 points. In your personal opinion how feasible is this and how difficult is it to improve the english section? Also should i self prep, take a class, or get a tutor?

@collegeman5‌ thanks again! i think i’ll prob do a lot of just science practice and take it june 14th :P

@qwerty2015 English is the easiest to improve in my opinion. I didn’t even touch an ACT book; I took about 10 SAT practice sections and scored a 34 on English. Finished with about 5 minutes to spare as well.
SELF PREP. Tutor’s are blah… You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink.

@qwerty2015 i think it’s not extremely difficult to improve your english score but if you don’t have a good foundation, you probably will have to study quite a bit. for me, english is one of the easier subjects and it kinda just comes naturally but as long as you practice it you should be able to improve considerably…i found that prepping for sat writing helped me a lot because the act english is a lot easier than sat. also i would write down what the mistake is in each sentence when you correct your practice tests and then you can see what the most common errors are. that will REALLY improve your score :)

Is a 30 a good score for Michigan State Univ. even though my gpa is 3.0-ish or should I retake for 31 or 32?

So…is anyone retaking?

Anyone have tips on the reading and science sections? During practice tests I primarily average 34+ for science and 31+ for reading… however, on the test itself my scores in those two sections suffer and bring down my composite a lot. I’m sure lots of other people need help with those two sections so does anyone have some good tips on improving on reading and science and dealing with the time crunch?
Thanks a lot and congrats to those who did well! :D

Also in your guys’s opinion, should I send both my ACT and my SAT scores? I got a 33 on the ACT but a 2060 (1410 CR+M) on the SAT. I know my SAT score is slightly worse relative to my ACT, but should I still send it for a school like Northwestern?

@star5431 and @ThanksIKnow My score on english is slightly disconcerting because It was the section where I felt most confident with all my answers and also had time to spare. My low math score can be attested to the fact that i ran out of time and guessed on several answers,(a problem which i think i can easily solve by learning how to pace properly). sdfgahBAJSFKDsdpfhas anyways, i guess i just need to review my basic grammar rules (which ive never been very good at). But… since im incredibly confused where i went wrong would you recommend spending the 19 dollars for the additional test info to see exactly which questions i got wrong?

@master1006 I am, but I’m waiting until September so I can use the summer to study. If I can get one of those nifty 36s, all the other students will be so jelly.

Im happy with my 28 but I’m really hoping to get a 30 on the one im taking in two days. Is anyone taking the state mandated one this week?

@iman101010 and @medgirl314 The ACT science is ■■■■■■■■ as fuc* they expect you to do everything without basically reading the little descriptions for which there simply isnt enough time and medgirl the check mark wasnt there LOL but i know im college ready because i always get good grades in science in school. The ACT shouldnt judge us for college readyness off their science test … and iman if you want to improve you have to interpret the graphs super quick and answer the questions and the contrasting viewpoints passage do it last … I didnt get a great score cause I didnt have enough time but i know the ones i answered were correct…

@qwerty2015 Haha, I feel your pain. Same thing happened to me except with the SAT. I thought the writing section was the easiest. It ended up being my lowest section. Although I think my 34 on ACT English proved that it was just a flaw. Math was particularly hard; I scored lower than I expected as well. If you want to buy the info it’s up to. I personally don’t know what they include, but it would be nice to know where you made your mistakes (if that’s what they give you).

I’m beyond pissed at my reading score. I’ve practiced to no end and it has actually gotten WORSE!!! The science was tough though, so I’m fine with a 27. Luckily I’ll get another chance in a few days for the state-mandated one that I’m taking…

@ThanksIKnow thanks so much man. I’ve decided to splurge and spend the extra 19 bucks for the extra info. Heres to hoping it was some sort of random flaw that i can easily fix!
