Hey lajkfdgi, I’ll see you at NYC for Cornell IMP! :)

Wow - congrats on your Rockefeller. Still waiting on that one…

Topic of interest: Biology of aging with a focus on brain aging and systems biology

US citizen
Computer Science BS GPA: 3.97 (small private school)
Computer Science MS GPA: 4.0 (big ten school)
Biological Sciences MS GPA: 3.95 (same big ten school)
GRE 740Q, 650V, 5.5W

4 research projects (1 biological, 3 computer science)
1 first author conference paper
1 technical report

brain_aging, congrats on BBS, but why didn’t you apply to SysBio at Harvard?

I applied to PhD programs at:
Caltech (Biochemistry/Biophysics), MIT (Microbiology), Berkeley (MCB), UW Seattle (Micro), Princeton (Mol Bio), UCLA ACCESS, UNC BBSP, UMich PIBS, and a MPhil program at Cambridge (Biochem)

So far, interviews at UCLA, UNC, UMich and an acceptance to Cambridge.

I really hope Princeton, Caltech, MIT, Berkeley, and UW Seattle just haven’t finished up sending their invites. If anyone knows about them please let me know.

I know someone else here applied to OHSU, but I don’t remember who, but thought I should update: just got an e-mail for an interview for PMCB on February 11th.

Did anyone here apply to the Cambridge University Sanger Institute? Does anybody know if it has started interviewing?

Just foudn this link:

Hope everyone is adding their interview/admission/rejection results to it. It’s a really usefull feature.

Just a got an interview call from a professor at UC Berkeley (MCB program) and also one from Sackler (NYU) earlier in the week. Really excited!!

Just received an email from UMich PIBS program (Neuroscience track) this afternoon telling me that interview decisions for international applicant will not be made until the week of March 8th. Does anyone know if this is typical and applies to any other schools where they review the international applicants significantly later than the domestic applications (I think that’s probably after their last interview wkend and when admission decisions have already been made for domestic student)? I know that Yale notifies decisions to domestic and international applicants at the same time (at least Canadian applicants).

bio2009:

My stats are:

Top 5, Molecular Cell Bio w/ Honors, GPA 4.0/4.0, GRE 760/650/5.5, Biochem 770 (99%).

Research for almost 3 years in same lab, various undergraduate awards for academics, research, and undergraduate thesis. Two publications in press, not first author. Three recs from professors who have all mentored my research.

Most likely going into systems / quantitative biology, but my math is limited. So… will be learning linear algebra and differential equations in the next few months. Somehow I squeaked by undergrad without those…

Congrats to everyone on interviews!

Interview at Berkeley MCB! First invite so far :-D

I hope everybody who comes to the BBS recruitment weekends will come find me and say hi.
I don’t think I’m going to host this year, but I will come to the swanky dessert event they hold at a museum, as it is full of delicious free dessert, which is really all that’s required to attract G3s.

UTHSCSA IMGP interview (notified by phone and email)

admission by phone from harvard bbs today!

Wow congrats!!!

If I got into Harvard BBS, I’d prolly be in a state of euphoria for weeks.

“Did anyone here apply to the Cambridge University Sanger Institute? Does anybody know if it has started interviewing?”

Microgirl,
I know a few people that have applied and as far as I know none have heard anything about interviews yet. Goodluck!

Anyone else hear from Weill Cornell BCMB?? Or know if they send invites in rounds? Thanks!

Yea, CONGRATS to everyone who made it into the Big H!!! :)

Hi FutureNeuroGrad. I was talking to my husband tonight about the program (well at least his program) and he was very impressed with several things. One being the labs are super nice and tend to be well funded (they mentioned being 8th in NIH funding…how true that is I really have no idea). He also noted the all grad students he spoke with and saw seemed to be very happy with their choices in schools. Although he was well aware they like to put the happy people up front it’s not like anyone gets paid to say how great the school is. Several of the grad students noted that when they originally applied UAB was suppose to be their safety school and even had offers from some of the more well known schools but just loved it there. Also there was talk about raising the stipend. I’m not certain if that would include you or not but it’s a good sign. In the end I’m not so certain he’ll end up there but it’s not certain he won’t. I’d say if you can go it might be worth it.

For those of you who have multiple major research projects under your belt, are you going to be equally prepared to talk about all of them at the interview? What will you talk about if the interviewer just says “What have you been working on?”

Any ideas on this will be appreciated. Oh yeah, also posting some stats for the first time:

–
GPA: 3.1 (chemistry undergrad at MIT)
GRE: 780Q 710V 5.0W
Research: 4 full years = 3 major projects
Publications: 1 paper, 1 poster, 1 more paper submitted
LORs: 3 from tenured professors who supervised research (I expect will be good to excellent)

Interviews: UCLA ACCESS, Vanderbilt IGP, Michigan PIBS
Still waiting: Stanford Biosciences, Harvard BBS, Caltech Biology
