Official Biomedical Sciences Interviews/Acceptances 2009

Will most schools inform you (via email or otherwise) if you get rejected?

Or is it simply no news means bad news?

411SL: yeah, Einstein is an open program, sorry for the confusion earlier.

Received e-mail invitation today to interview with UVa MCDB on 2/12 or 3/12.

Applied: Northwestern, Baylor, Mt. Sinai, Wisc, Arizona, Nebraska, Sloane, UPenn, UCSC, UCSF, UWash
Interviews: U Mich PiBS, Einstein, City of Hope, UVa MCDB
Rejections: None so far

Belevit-- since UC Boulder is one of my top choices, do you mind if I ask approximately what percentages of interviewees are accepted?

It absolutely varies by program, since some programs use the interview as a way to significantly winnow the pool and others don’t. The numbers I have are approximate, and they’re from my experience interviewing at the programs at which I interviewed – those are the numbers I heard from faculty.

They will inform you, but not necessarily right away.

Brandeis biochem Interview! Notification via email this morning. Feb 13th. It’s optional?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been following this thread since the new year and anxiously waiting to hear something from the schools I applied to. Here’s my info:

Applied: UNC-Chapel Hill, Pitt, Emory, Duke
Interviews: Emory Neuroscience (got the call yesterday!)

Stats:
GPA: 3.5
GRE: 540V 680Q 4.5AW
4 excellent letters
2+ years as research technician/lab manager, a few papers and numerous abstracts with middle authorship, 2 graduate classes at Pitt IBGP, 1 conference where I did a poster session

Crossing my fingers, especially for UNC and Pitt. Hope I hear soon!!

Hello everyone,

SO far, I have acceptance from Rockefeller and interview invitations from Yale (BBS), Gerstner, Weill Cornell, Berkeley and Stanford. Still waiting to hear from MIT and Harvard (HMS). Does anyone know when the latter two inform the applicants? HMS doesn’t interview applicants for the BBS program, hence I might just have to wait until the end of the month. Any idea about MIT?

funkybuddha,
Do you mind me asking when you heard from Stanford and to which program you applied? Thanks!

I am not sure when the official invitations were meant to be sent out from Stanford (Biosciences, Med School). Let me just say, mine is an unofficial one at the moment. But if one has invitation from Berkeley, s/he should let Stanford know of the invite. The two seem to have a great overlap in their applicant pool.

MIT or HMS anyone?

Hi CogNeuro! Congrats on your interviews. I haven’t heard back from Johns Hopkins or UCLA. I was just wondering when you got your interview invites?

UW-Seattle MCB interview by email and phone today

congrats brain-aging… i got rejected… u must hv really good stats!!

UW-Seattle MCB interview invitation by phone today; their interview dates are the 12th and the 26th of Feb (I think).

Applied: Northwestern, Baylor, Mt. Sinai, Wisc, Arizona, Nebraska, Sloane, UPenn, UCSC, UCSF
Interviews: U Mich PiBS, Einstein, City of Hope, UVa MCDB, UWa-Seattle MCB
Rejections: None so far

Anyone hear from UCSF Neuroscience or Stanford Biosci?

I applied to Stanford biosciences (chem-bio) but haven’t heard anything back yet either.

Einstein misplaced my transcripts…grrrr I’m ****ed!

woah I didn’t even write anything bad, what’s with the asterisks?! whatever I’m still mad!

Baylor MCB interview invitation by email today; their interview dates are Feb 5th and March 12 I think

Applied: Northwestern, Mt. Sinai, Wisc, Arizona, Nebraska, Sloane, UPenn, UCSC, UCSF
Interviews: U Mich PiBS, Einstein, City of Hope, UVa MCDB, UWa-Seattle MCB, Baylor MCB
Rejections: None so far

Does anyone else wonder if they’ll screw up on the interviews?

Einstein “never received” my two transcripts… except every other school received them fine… had to pay to have them rush sent again
