ahhh… interview clashes…

Totally surprised. Husband got an interview with UW-Seattle (microbiology). I thought it to be very unlikely. So stats so far are

Applied: UW-Seattle, UW-Madison, U Alabama Birmingham, Yale, Dartmouth, Virginia Tech., Arizona State University, Vanderbilt

Interviews: U Alabama, Yale, UW-Madison, UW-Seattle, Dartmouth

Rejected: none

Accepted: none

I got a call from Stanford biosciences this afternoon about interviews.

Bio-geek,
Was it because you hadn’t specified which home program was your first choice? I heard they called a few people about that because two or three home programs all wanted to interview them.

No. I applied to biology only.

I’m still waiting from: UCLA, Stanford, Berkeley, Harvard and Northwestern (all neuroscience programs).

Any news?

neurohopeful,
i heard from harvard dms but not from ucla, stanford, berkeley.

did you/anyone else hear from princeton neuroscience(the new phd program)?
good luck!

I got a Princeton email on Friday.

neuro,

Which department from Princeton?

Nevermind, ignore my question! Didn’t see your post at the top. lol

I received Stanford’s invitation this evening and I have been asked to choose between Biology and Cancer Biology programs so that they can schedule interviews accordingly. Now the only two I’m waiting for are the big ones from Boston. Anyone?

I was wondering if all international students (even those that are currently doing graduate studies in the US) hear later than domestic applicants. I have not heard back from any of the universities I have applied to. I called Sloan-Kettering today and they told me that they are still reviewing and that they will send out invites as late as Friday night and even maybe Monday morning. This wait is simply killing me. I am from India and have good stats otherwise.

Applied: Sloan-Kettering, Harvard BBS, Princeton (Mol Bio), Brown (MCB), Columbia (umbrella program), Boston University (MCBB), Dartmouth (MCB)

Rejected: None

just got an invite to interview at university of wisconsin-madison

Just got an email from Stanford Biosciences BMI asking for a supplement (which I did not even know existed!) Is that good or bad?

Otherwise: Harvard BBS accepted
Harvard SysBio interview
Berkeley MCB interview

Nissle,

I’m in the same boat as you. I think the consensus is that international applicants generally hear back at a later date.

Nissle and sideserver,
I am in the same situation as you. I applied to 7 programs and so far got the interview invitation from Duke biochem.

Got an interview email from Baylor COM for Jan 29 - Feb 1. I didn’t get my app in until the 5th of Jan, so a pretty quick turnaround I’d say. My fiancee also got an interview that same weekend, which is a huge relief.

Still waiting on Duke, UNC, UWash, and Vandy

Applied: NYU (Med School - Neuroscience), Emory, UPenn, WUSTL, UChicago, Columbia, Harvard, Yale, UWisconsin, Weill Cornell, Duke

Interviews: UPenn (12/16-by phone), Emory (1/10-by phone)

Rejects: None

Stats: Small liberal arts college – 3.73 GPA, 570V/750Q/6.0AW, 1 First Author Abstract at SFN, Research: 1 summer at Los Alamos Natl Lab, 1 summer at Harvard Med, 1 year honors neuro research, 1 semester + 1 summer in biochem lab in college, 1 year now working in pharma

QUESTION: I know people got invites to some of the other schools I applied, but I know some people send out in waves. I dont see how some committees go through 200 apps in one morning throroughly. Anyway, question about WUSTL. I was asked about faculty I was interested in in this RIB list I had to log onto in the beginning of Dec, but had problems with the link. I emailed, and she sent me a new link, and it worked (right before X-mas). I haven’t heard anything yet back…what does this mean? Do they send that faculty list to everyone or should I keep waiting??

Hi FutureNeuroGrad - Strangely enough I heard from both UCLA and JHU on the same day - last Friday 1/9 - both by email. I wouldn’t be too worried that you haven’t heard since it’s unlikely they contact everyone at the same time.

alleycat1 - I was also asked to fill out the faculty list for WUSTL (just last week) and I got a phone call from them today confirming the interview invitation. I’ve heard they’ve been contacting people at all different times. I wouldn’t read too much into the delay period and just take it as a good sign that you were asked to fill out the faculty form.

Can anyone tell me when the interview weekends are for Sloane Kettering? I really wish I just knew how many invites I am going to receive! It would make the scheduling so much easier :-)
