Official Biomedical Sciences Interviews/Acceptances 2009

I am waiting on Rockefeller (and Scripps) as well. Every time I see a FedEx truck I get a little hopeful but nothing yet. Does anyone know if Rock has a waiting list?

Have you guys heard from Hopkins Neuro? Are they done giving interview invites?

Here’s to hoping for Rockefeller… Good luck to everyone waiting!

belevitt, I just thought someone interested in drug development would apply to chem or biochem track rather than immuno.

Have anybody contacted Harvard BBS adcoms? Have they finished with acceptances?

Waiting for:

Stanford U. - Cancer bio
MIT - Biology
Rockefeller U.
Harvard U. - BBS
Washington U. in St. Louis - MCB
Columbia U. - CMB
U. Penn - CMB
BCM - CMB
JHU - BCMB
Princeton U. - Mol bio

Interview:

Cornell U./Sloan Kettering
Yale U - Molecular Cell Biology, Genetics and Development

Rejected: UCSF - BMS

Haha, not drug development! But also not recreational (a damn shame)… I’ve been in the preclinical addiction/motivation field for the last three years, and DrugsRFun was the only thing my stress-addled brain could come up with. So mostly neuro/biochem/umbrella programs for me.

I have also not heard from Hopkins neuro yet, to answer Jorje.

Just got an invite to Penn neuro as well! Yay First invite!

I guess I will see you there DrugsRFun. haha I have a sweatshirt that says “drugs are cool, only when used therapeutically” :P

I have a shirt that says “Chemists do it on a table… periodically” :P

On a more serious note, has anyone received new acceptance notices within the past few days?

I predict slash, hope, that people will hear tomorrow, since these three days have been holidays. Last this thread has heard was Penn and Stanford on Friday.

So I heard thru the grapevine that U Mich had Neuro interviews already (Neuro-not PIBS), although they just told someone I know that they hadn’t even given invites when he called to see what was up. Anyone know anything about that? I haven’t seen any results on here or gradcafe.

Oh and U Chicago Neurobio…I still haven’t heard anything from anyone, but it’s been awhile…

Sorry to turn this into a biochem joke thread, but one of my undergrads had [this shirt](<a href=“Chemfreak's - Chemistry related items and more...”>Gifts - CafePress) and I thought it was too funny.

So I have an invitation for an interview at a New England school that is maybe 3 or 4 on my list of schools I want to go to. The interview is Feb 13th and it is their only date. I also have an interview at a mid-western school that is 2nd on my list of schools I want to go to. They have interviews Feb 13th and in March.

Would you guys recommemend taking the New England school’s invite for Feb 13th and waiting til the March date for the Mid-western one (so I wouldn’t have to ask for a solitary interview visit), or should I take the Feb 13th interview with the mid-western school and ask for a solitary visit to the New England school?

Does visiting a school on one of the later interview dates put you at a significant disadvantage?

Heard from NYU Sackler for Neuro last week via email. Interview Feb5-6ish.

Applied:
Harvard
Yale
UChicago
NYU - Sackler
Penn
Emory
Columbia
Weill Cornell
UWisconsin
Duke
WUSTL

Interviews:
Emory
Penn
NYU

Rockefeller sent their acceptances by mail already???
What about interviews?
Are they skipping the interviews?

I guess I won’t get a free trip to NYC from CA after all… :_(

I couldn’t take this waiting anymore so I e-mailed them asking about the status of my application. I guess they are still “reviewing applications” so maybe we still have hope? :(

This is the message:

"Thank you for your interest in The Rockefeller University’s graduate program.

Applications are being reviewed by the Admissions Committee, representing the various areas of biological science. You will be notified about the status of your application as soon as possible, but not later than February 15th.
Prospective candidates will be invited to visit the campus to meet with faculty and students at the beginning of March. The program for these visits will run from Thursday afternoon through Friday evening."

That’s what I got as well.

Applied:
Rockefeller
Harvard BBS
MIT Biology
Stanford Biochem/Biology

Accepted:
Rockefeller

Interviews:
MIT
Stanford Biochem/Biology (chose Biochem)

Does anyone know if Harvard BBS is still sending out notifications? It’s my top choice, so I’m hoping to hear something soon. Thanks.

Harvard BBS does not do invitations, according to Professor Bruce Jenkner at Harvard.

Oh, I meant acceptances. Thanks.

I got accepted to BBS last year in the middle of february-- so there’s still hope

ec1234 - that’s encourging. Anyway.
