Got an acceptance email from Gerstner today. That was quick, given that the interviews were completed on Thursday only.

Wow congrats funkybuddha! Is Gerstner having more than one interview weekend, or just the one you went to?

I think they only had the one I went to. There were about 36 students invited from close to 400 total applicants, and anywhere from 25-30 students were to receive acceptances of whom only about 10-12 are expected to matriculate.

Congrats funkybuddha, I got an acceptance email this morning as well.

Congrats to you too xiv21!!

Does anyone know if the following programs are calling international students (overseas) to interviews:

-Harvard Public Health
-UPENN BGS or Biology
-Columbia Medical School programs

thank you very much…

I applied to graduate neuroscience programs

Interviews: Weill Cornell, Washington University, University of Chicago, Penn, UCLA, and Watson School of Biological Sciences (at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory)

Waiting: Columbia and Johns Hopkins

US citizen
GPA: 3.7 at a top tier public research university
Major: Neuroscience and Philosophy
GRE: 690V (98%), 720Q (78%), 4.5AW (57%)
Research: 3 years; poster presentation at national conference, 2nd author on paper
2 summer research fellowships, NIMH fellowship for 2008-2009 school year

kdel, did you apply to Penn through their BGS program? I received an interview there.

Also, when did you hear about Weill Cornell? I’m still waiting on mine, though I know one of my letters went in late. But it went in late to all of my schools, and Penn already notified me two weeks ago.

@renita - i can’t speak for all programs (each dept runs their own interviewing process) but mine only flies in international applicants from canada … and presumably mexico, but i haven’t met anyone from there yet.

this is a list of all the interviewing weekends for the programs hosted by columbia’s medical campus. it’s not all-inclusive (eg, my department has one that’s not listed) but it’s a good idea:

1/16 - Integrated
1/23 - Biochem/Neuro/Informatics
1/30 - Biochem/Genetics/Nutrition/Pathology/Pharm/Physiology (<– my dept’s here!)
2/6 - Genetics/Micro/Integrated
2/13 - Micro/Neuro

Invitation to BU MCBB Recruitment Weekend Feb 22-23 by email just now.

@ virion:

Pharmacology, under BBS.

@Astrina

I’m interviewing at Columbia on 2/13 in Pharm.

Can anyone tell me the exact difference between “Interview weekend” and “Recruitment weekend”. BU GSAS has invited me to their “Recruitment Weekend”. I was hoping that “Recruitment” would mean that I have it in the bag.

Hi Nissle,

I’m 99% positive that recruitment means the exact same thing as interview. At least at Harvard, they have “recruitment weekend” but that just means that you roughly have about 50% of getting in - same thing as “interview weekend.”

Thanks PatchesNBrownie, that was very helpful. I have had good contact with a PI there and was even invited up for an entire day by her and shown around the department, campus and city – so I’m hoping for the best. Good luck to you in all your interviews.

astrina,

just wondering - roughly how many recruits come to each interview weekend at Columbia, thanks!

depends on the department, when i interviewed there were ~15 of us but i heard we’re planning on getting ~25 in the first cycle this year. (maybe we’ll get some guys on board – the last one to enter our department is already a 3rd year)

aradian7, thanks. I can see now that my program is under the BBS umbrella program (but different field), too.

Anyway, I am wondering that people are not accepted shortly after the interviews, will be on waitlists or will be rejected? Is there any program accept all students that come for the interview weekends?

I was wondering when most schools send out their rejection letters. Some of the programs I’ve applied to have already had their interview weekends. But I have yet to be notified of any rejections. Why do they do this to us?!

Also, does anyone else have an interview at NYU Sackler Feb 5-6? Have you gotten travel arrangements yet?

So I had a terrific interview weekend and I am thinking about canceling other interviews (not all of them, just one or two) has anybody done this?
