Denied from UCSF Tetrad after logging into my account today.
I guess they have rolling rejections as well, since I know others have already been rejected months ago.

DrugsRFun,

I was there on Monday too! No call yet from any professors - hopefully I get one tomorrow. I was very impressed with Einstein as well - a lot of people in our group were. I loved the tour they took us on - that and my interviews really turned my view around and made them my top pick so far.

roxannecellbio,
No, I wasn’t there. My Einstein interview is scheduled next week, really looking forward to it:)

Hey Turabbit-

I’m also going to Albert Einstein next week. Maybe I’ll see you there!

I’ll be at Einstein next week as well! Do any of you know who you’ll be meeting with for sure? Received any itineraries yet?

no, not yet. I really hope I can get the itinerary this week.

interview from UNC today via email for March 5-7…very surprised!

Just got an invitation to a recruitment weekend at UW-Madison Comparative Biomed Sci on March 7-8. I’m am very surprised.

Congrats Virion, I am glad to hear that you got an interview at Madison.

Thanks belevitt.

Hello All,
I am new here. This is my 2nd attempt at applying to grad school.
I spent last semester retaking a few courses, did great. This semester I’m taking courses that I’ve wanted to take, but had no time (my electives were always science courses)…

Applied: U Wash (pharm); OHSU (neuro); UTMB; and U Alberta
GRE: average ![]()
GPA: 3.20 (overall); 3.32 (major - neuroscience); 3.55 (last 2 years)
experience: summer lab intern scholarship thing (unt-hsc)
work: at a well-known UT school, Lab Tech II (2.5 years)

I am quite sure OHSU interviews have past, so that’s a no.
Does anyone know if U Wash (for pharmacology) has invited anyone for interviews yet?
I can log onto UTMB, my application is pending. Its driving me crazy.
U-Alberta: I have to wait til final transcripts are in (after this spring…sooooo far away)

do you guys think i have a chance?

thanks

Einstein acceptance today!! I am really happy about this. Even if I don’t get accepted anywhere else, I would be really happy going there.

Now I can go to my remaining interviews without the semi-desperation of not having an acceptance yet.

Have any international students heard from UNC BBSP or Rutgers Bioscience?
Congrates anyone getting acceptance!

Anyone going to Caltech Biology next weekend?

411SL and turarabbit: For the Einstein interviews, bring your big book of faculty research (the one they sent in the mail) with you and have it for the interview day. At least for our group, we didn’t get our full list of interviews until that morning at breakfast.

Thanks for the tip roxanne! Did you do anything in particular to prepare for their interview? I was wondering how that works, if you don’t know who you’ll be interviewing with how are you supposed to look them up ahead of time? Did you just look up/read papers of the profs you were interested in?

roxannecellbio,
thank you so much and congratulations of the acceptance^_^

411SL: So what happened to me is that they had me interview with some people I didn’t choose who are on the admissions committee, and some people I did choose. The people I didn’t choose didn’t expect me to know their research - however, the people I did choose did expected me to at least be able to say why I was interested in their lab. So once you get your list that morning, quickly flip through the book you bring with you to bring yourself up to speed on what those professors do, and to remind yourself why you’re intersted in them. Also, know your own research, of course.

thanks turarabbit. i’m really happy about it

Howdy. The Einstein interviews were pretty fun and relaxed. I had an hour or more for each of the five interviews, which was a lot nicer than the interview day I just completed (which put 8 interviews in one day with anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour each). The PI’s, for the most part, were genuinely interested and at the end of the meetings every single one gave out their contact information for follow ups if wanted. A nice touch at any rate. I would suggest having a good handle on the recent papers by the PI’s you specifically requested, and some questions for them relating to that. The ones I didnt request pretty much just wanted to chat about their work, and maybe asked a few questions about my own work (but nothing complex).

The tour was a winner though. It pretty much vaulted Einstein from a safety school with some PIs I happened to like, into one that I am truly thinking very hard about now. Their core facilities, and the (potential) length they go to make them available to grad students is a real draw.

The only critique I really had about the weekend was that we did all the interviews the day before the tour of the facilities and cores. It would have been a lot more interesting to talk to the PI’s having done the tour first.

Anyhow, goodluck to everyone heading over there this coming week! Enjoy NY :)
