Official Biomedical Sciences Interviews/Acceptances 2009

Grad0202_09, I’m going to the BU interview (Cell and Molec Bio), but the dates they gave me were Feb. 22-23. What department are you going for?

whew… accepted to UCLA ACCESS too. I’m so relieved to have one in the bag.

Random Q: When people are talking about tier 1, 2, etc… how does that translate to biomedical/biology PhD programs? I know that Harvard, MIT, etc, are all tier 1, but what schools are considered tier 2, and why? What about schools like UCLA, Michigan, etc?

Having an acceptance, especially at one of your top choice schools, definitely makes interviews a lot less stressful and much more fun.

dilac: skale_far, so which interviews DIDN’T you reject?!

lol. I’ve declined almost all of those because the girlfriend and I have planned to go to grad school together (she got into UC Berkley law… #6 law school… and so the only other more highly ranked schools she’s awaiting to hear back from are Harvard and Columbia. I’m more or less set on UC Berkeley as well because the only other way for things to do down is that both she and I get into Harvard (or I get into MIT), or she gets into Columbia and I get into Rockefeller. Could happen… but not likely.

I may still interview at UCLA just in case Berkeley’s Molecular toxicology program gets set ablaze by a lightning bolt (you know… because Berkeley’s all heathens - proof is that the hotel in berkeley we got put up in for interviews had a desklamp in the shape of a bong and a framed picture of streakers above the toilet). J/k I love the hippie bay area

Grad0202_09 -

I’ll be there for the BU bioinformatics program Feb. 20 and 21st (I think I saw that was your program too). I don’t have my itinerary yet.

Shoebox360 - i booked my flight today!!! where are you coming from???

Time for an update:

Accepted: Rockefeller, Gerstner, Yale
Interviews: Berkeley, MIT, UChicago, Stanford
Declined (by me): Cornell Weill, Columbia, NYU
Waiting: Harvard BBS

I just wish HMS didn’t appear so elusive…the only school I didn’t hear from, although I have better choices in my program to pick.

All the best everyone. We’ll save the world, one protein at a time!!

patchesnbrownie

yeah ive got that weekend as well but for systems biology and biophysics

Grad -

I PM’d you! :D

surprise e-mail from Mt Sinai for an interview yesterday. Don’t know if I can make it.

turarabbit,

I just went on my Einstein interview on Monday. Were you there?

melva-

from what i understand einstein is rolling in that they accept however many people after each interview, and also they have no cap.

Going to the US tomorrow. Just got an email notifying on-campus interview at SUNY Stony Brook.

I applied to SUNY-CSHL shared program. CSHL rejected me.

Anyway, I can still choose CSHL mentors through Stony Brook entry.

To those of you still waiting to hear:

From the Harvard BBS website-
“The BBS program does not interview applicants. After reviewing the applications, if you are accepted you will be notified by the first week of February 2009 and will be given the opportunity to visit during one of our 2 recruitment weekends (February 12-15, 2009 or March 5-8, 2009)”

Since this is the first week of Feb, I’m guessing we can consider ourselves rejected after Friday?

I’m sure a lot of people have called Rockefeller after reading that post yesterday. I have called the admissions office and was told to wait for the decisions, which was mailed out a few days ago, this week.

I want to know NOW!! :(

Best of luck to everyone.

Ymmit, I read that too on the BBS website. Since I had no factual information to go on one way or the other, I assumed that I had rejected them rather than they rejecting me. Take that you arrogant pricks.

Second acceptance, Einstein. Received calls from two PI’s in the neuro department. Very fast turn around, interviewed on Monday. I was actually pretty impressed with the program there, at least a lot more so than I thought I would be prior to the interview visit.

leukEmia

Which program at STony brook did you apply for??? do you know who your interviewing with???

anyone hearing from rockefeller please post your status thanks!!!

I applied to CSHL. They turned in my application to Stony Brook, MCB and Genetics.

I will visit their campus next week and meet at least 4-5 professors. The admissions coordinator will send me the list once she can confirm it.
