Bit of a crazy day today, received interview invites to 3 of the 6 schools I applied to, all within a one hour timeframe (everyone must be trying to get done before the holidays!).

Interview invites from: Penn (CMB), Harvard (DMS-Virology), and Mount Sinai

Waiting to hear from: Rockefeller, UTMB, Mayo

definitely wear something comfortable, and something that serves a lot of purposes. Often you will interview and then go out to a nice dinner and then out to a club/bar/party, all without getting the chance to change. Watch out for heels that are too high, as there may be a decent amount of walking involved (esp if ppl you are interviewing with are in different buildings/other side of the campus). Other than that, whatever you feel comfortable in is fine. I usually wore cords/brown pants and a sweater, and seemed to be appropriately dressed.

Hi, everyone. I am an international student studying in the US now. I applied to several programs including UNCCH-BBSP and Scripps which some of you have got interview invitations from. However, I haven’t received any notification from all the schools I applied to. I am wondering whether it is due to my international status.

Do the programs review international applications later?
Thank you.

Lilynorth, I’m also an international applicant to Scripps. When I talked with the admissions office back in Nov, they told me that the committee meets on several occasions to review files, so the sooner your file is complete, the sooner your file will be looked at. Did you get the email from them saying that your file is complete? Also they told me that most of the interview invites will be send in Jan. Therefore, I was a little surprised when I got the invite today, the 2 interview weekends are for the end of Feb and early March, so there is still a long way to go. In general, I think programs review files based on completeness rather than citizenship status.

Hi people with experience from previous years. I have a question about interview invitations. Are all of the interview invitations from a department sent out at the same time? Are there waves of invites?

I think I mentioned before. Last year my friend and I (with nearly identical credentials) applied at the same time to some of the same schools. We often got calls/e-mails for interviews weeks apart. Neither one of us heard anything until the first week of January either.

Congrats to all those that already have interviews, but for those that do not yet, don’t worry too much, relax, and try to enjoy your holidays without refreshing your inbox every 15 seconds (I know, I did it too).

virion, my test scores have not reached upenn yet even though i sent it 2 months ago. So i emailed my score to the program coordinator directly and she agreed to include that self reported score if the official one did not reach in time for review. perhaps you could try doing something like that.

Thanks new user, I have actually been hitting refresh on my email and carrying my phone around at all times. Good to know that I am not out because other people have gotten my coveted interview spot.

Thank you, PhD-Bound. Actually, I am a 1st year Ph.D student. Due to some personal reasons, I want to transfer to another school. Hope things go well.

Just got a very encouraging call from Yale BBS (Molecular Cell Biology, Genetics and Development) inviting me to visit on their interview weekend at the end of January (Jan. 29-Feb. 1)!

Thanks Phanta for the information! still have no news from Uchicago…
but I got a call from Yale BBS (MCGD) today for Jan interview.
Biostudent, did you receive any emails about the interview?
