gsfall09, it seems like we have a lot of overlap in our applications/interviews.

I also got my acceptance letters from Brandeis and Northeastern yesterday. I interviewed at BU this week, and will be at Tufts Sackler on Friday. I will be visiting Tufts GSAS (Bio) in 2 weeks.

One of the schools I was admitted to sent an email that said:
“I hope you will choose to join our department and believe that you will find our program challenging and exciting. Please email me by March 17 to let me know if you will accept this offer.”

From what I’ve read on forums, I thought I had until April 15th to notify a school? Any ideas?

Most schools would hope that you will let them know of your decision early, so they can offer someone else should you decide not to come. All schools want a certain number of students to matriculate. The school website should say somewhere what the actual deadline for accepting offers is, after which point the offer is no longer valid.

If you have absolutely no intention of attending a particular school it’s nice to just let them know so someone that is waitlisted gets an offer.

Husband got a message that he had been wait listed at Yale. No big deal really since he wasn’t that keen on the area. He’s asked to have his name removed from the list since he’s really not that interested in going and it might give someone else a shot.

Last of the interviews is this Sun-Wed in Seattle. We hope to have a decision soon after. Keeping my fingers crossed for UW-Seattle honestly. UW-Madison is great school but the winters here are the worst.

emailed wisc cancer biology, was told “could be the end of March”… they consider domestic students first. people who got the offer but definitely will not go there… please withdraw it sooner… give some hope for me… I need to deal with my J1 waiver also, so hope I can hear back sooner…

UCSD Biology Program waits until all interviews are complete to admit anyone (domestic or international). They had two official interview weekends and there is 3rd one for extra people in the beginning of March. I believe they are predicting students will hear by the first or second week in march.

Honestly, does UPenn CAMB just never bother to let people know they’re rejected? I mean I obviously am not getting an invite, but it would be nice to get some sort of formal rejection as a courtesy.

roxannecellbio, he applied to the microbiology department. One of the kids at the Yale interview said they had already interviewed there and that department was looking to admit 5-6. Not great odds so I’ll not hold my breath but it would be nice. Are you going to be there?

fayrlite, I was there back in the beginning of February for MCB. I loved it and it’s one of my top choices. There are probably not a lot of people interviewing if they’re only gonna have a class of 5-6, right? So I’m sure your husband still has a good chance. I think for MCB, they interviewed 60 and were going to admit 40 to shoot for a class of around 18. At least that’s what I heard. So with microbio, they probably will admit 10, and are probably interviewing like 15 people. Then again this is all just a guess… that Yale kid might have known more about it.

For “posterity’s” sake: my d (“neurostudent”) was offered admission to UPenn (neuro) last Wed (Feb 25th) after interviewing there the previous weekend (Feb 19-21). She was very impressed with the program and it remains one of her top choices. Still waiting to hear from Emory (they have a final interview weekend this weekend) as well as NYU and she has a visit to Vanderbilt in a couple of weeks. She previously declined an offer to interview at UVA due to time constraints. And she has been crazed these past few weeks so has not been on here in a while…
