i too am waiting for 2 of my reimbursement checks. I thought they would process them quickly but its been 2-3 weeks already They should know that some of us are living month to month here!!

roxannecellbio, there are definitely mixed reactions from all prospective students I talked to. I think what is important is what you thought of the program. For example, I was at an interview weekend not too long ago and lots of people I talked to loved the program. I hated it. Really, it was exactly what I didnât want, but we all have different priorities. I think you should be aware of the general atmosphere, but listen to yourself. Grad school should be what you make it.

Different people have different perceptions. And that can be very different from that of another personâs perception of the same thing. If you spent a whole weekend interviewing at a school and you had no trouble getting along with the grad students and didnât think their behavior was âforcedâ, then chances are, you will still feel the same way later. Itâs what âyouâ think of the people and the program that matters the most. Maybe others did not like the people there because they were looking for something else. I met somebody at the BU interview who had interviewed at Brown before and took offense at the grad students telling her how much fun the city of Providence was, and not how miserably over-worked and unhappy the professors make the studentsâ lives. So it all depends on you. If you think the program + students are a good fit for you then thatâs what counts! If I remember right you have some fantastic acceptances to choose from. Picture yourself at each place and if go wherever you think wil give you the best of professional success and personal happiness.

Iâm also waiting for my reimbursements.
They sure take their sweet ass time.
I hope I can be at a place where there is little bureaucratic ********.

I have also yet to receive reimbursements⊠Definitely a very empty wallet until the checks come in. Students donât have much money to begin with and cab fares are not cheap; it really adds up.

Reimbursements inevitably take time. Even if the office that arranged your visit submits the request/receipts right away, forms still have to go through levels of approval stages, then go off to a central accounting office where the checks are cut. For state schools or schools where the reimbursements are paid with grant money, itâs all in place to make sure taxpayer funds are being spent wisely. And remember - hundreds if not thousands of these requests are being filtered through that accounting office all in the same short period this time of year, while all the rest of the accounting stuff they have to do doesnât let up. Itâs not like schools can afford to hire extra people to help out with this. Most programs do not want to jeopardize your decision to come to their school by being slow on the reimbursement and are aware that most students are living on a tiny income, but it is what it is.

I have not heard back from the NIH yet, but I expect it to be positive. I need to make a decision between UCSF and Oxcam program. How does the UCSF TETRAD program rank among mol bio/cell bio programs in the US? I am having a really tough time finding this info! Can anyone give me any advice here? Thanks!

Iâve been especially stressed about UCSF as 60 people were interviewed for <30 spots (Iâm guessing). Iâve been checking this thread and the âresults searchâ in thegradcafe.com neurotically.

Has anyone heard back yet? I heard that they would get back to the students they were really interested in this week and would contact the others after the second interview weekend (which is this weekend).

sgee, are you talking about Biophysics? I am waiting on Tetrad; they should be getting back to everyone this week since I believe they had their last interview session this past Friday. I am so nervous since itâs my top choice!! I wonder when the ad com meetsâŠ

Do you guys know how long it takes for the graduate school, in general, to process recommendations for admission from the department? Is it purely administrative? I guess Iâm just being paranoid about the whole thing. AHHHH!!

youâre not alone, randomname01âŠI received unofficial (e-mail) acceptances over two weeks ago and am still checking my mail daily for the official letter. Maybe it was all a dream?!? This whole process is so unnerving, even once you think youâve been accepted!!!
