[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Non-athletic likely letter. As to why I received that or why the adcom favorably reviewed me, who knows? If I had to guess, I would say it was my using everything my school had to offer and going beyond it in the subjects I really wanted to study.

[] Summer Activities: Debate camp, engineering program at Rose Hulman, lots of backpacking

[] Teacher Recommendation: English teacher, very good(I read it). Physics teacher, didn’t read, but I presume it was good since I got into Brown
[] Counselor Rec: We’re very friendly, so probably good but I don’t know
[] Additional Rec: none
[] Interview: I thought it went really well, it was basically just like an hour long conversation about why Brown is amazing and what I’ve done
[/ul]
Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): California
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity:White
[] Gender:Male
[] Income Bracket: middle class
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):[/ul]
Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: essays, interview, scores, grades, recommendations
[] Weaknesses: not a lot of ECs, not much summer activities
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think I got in because in addition to my good scores and grades, my essays and the other subjective parts of my application showed me to be someone who is intellectually curious and would enjoy brown. But in the end, who the hell really knows. This is such a ridiculously opaque process it’s impossible to tell.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted: Pomona, Wesleyan, UCD, UCSB Waitlisted: Harvey Mudd Rejected: Yale, Stanford[/ul]
General Comments: What I’m most happy about is that I got into my two top choice schools (pomona and brown) and I did exactly what I wanted to for the last four years. I took the classes I actually wanted to take (ie, dropped AP Lit and Spanish 4 at the beginning of senior year and took AP Bio instead), did the activities I wanted at an intensity level I enjoyed, and spent my summers relaxed. I didn’t spend 300 hours volunteering at the homeless shelter or at the humane society because I wanted to pad my application, I just spent time cooking with my friends after school for ill people. In the end, I don’t think I could be much happier with my high school career and the choices I’ve made. To all those who are still on the journey to college, I say this to you: Be who you are, do what you love, and don’t give a **** what other people say. The best direction is the one you choose for yourself, and in the end it will show. Cheers!
