Can someone tell me if this is the good one or not?

Thank you for your application to the University of Michigan College of Engineering for Fall 2013. We are pleased that you have applied and are impressed with your achievements. However, our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. As a result, we are writing to inform you that your application is currently being deferred for further review.

While this is not the answer that you were hoping to hear, it is still good news. Your application is one of a group that remains under consideration. All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlist will be made no later than early-April, 2013.

Please refer to the website [Information for Deferred Students | University of Michigan Office of Admissions](http://www.admissions.umich.edu/deferred) for FAQs about the admission process and what to do next. Strong fall semester or second trimester grades may improve your status in the deferred pool of applicants. Therefore, please ask your high school counselor to forward your fall semester or second trimester grades when they become available and be sure your U-M ID -------- is on the material. Beyond that, we are confident that the information you have given us is more than sufficient for a final decision. The most successful candidates send us only what we require.

Because you are in this select group, we hope your interest in Michigan continues, and we will keep you informed of our progress. You have our best wishes for an enjoyable and successful end of your senior year.

Sincerely,

Theodore L. Spencer

Associate Vice Provost and Executive Director

To those accepted, what did the email look like? Mine was very, very short. Did others get a more detailed email (they did say a letter was coming in the mail…)

man they didn’t even say thank you for applying… i didn’t think i was that bad. 3.4 gpa with a strong upward trend, 2150 SAT, 4-5 leadership roles, employment, medical hardships (detailed in essay)

My daughter was deferred at 7:42pm ET via email, nothing in WA. In state Southeastern Michigan COE. 3.8 UW 29 ACT. 3rd Generation legacy and brother is there now. Her brother was deferred then wait listed then rejected. He transferred into Michigan after one year elsewhere.

Deferred - along with plenty of over qualified applicants from my school. I don’t know what Michigan is doing… so many good applicants going to waste.

still waiting i figured id get deferred, just waiting on confirmation. Also im in MA, so it looks like they’re sending out all acceptances and some deferrals first
