@marijke is there a name for the groupme?
Perhaps I am not looking in the right places, so can someone direct me to the neu portal’s info about registering for the first orientation?
Question about Financial Aid packages: Did anyone’s financial aid letter include grants in addition to merit?
My D received a scholarship, and it was listed in a merit letter accessible online along with her decision. However, her financial aid letter erroneously said that NEU had not received her FAFSA and CSS (which had been sent mid-November).
I called the Financial Aid office, and it turned out to be a mix-up. They will process her financial aid over the next 1-2 weeks. I am curious as to whether what NEU already offered my D ($10k/semester Connections scholarship) is all that is likely, or if they also offer grants to some students. Hoping for more $$, which would make it more likely that she will choose Northeastern.
@OCNYmom It would depend on your EFC as computed by Northeastern. If your need is say $25,000 then you would keep the $10,000 merit aid, likely get $10,000 need based grant and $5000 federal loan. If need exceeds merit then extra need aid is given. If merit exceeds need, then it is only merit.
@binky17 I don’t think that registration for summer orientation is open yet. You may use “For additional information or assistance, contact New Student Orientation and Parent/Family Programs at 800.696.6516, or via email at orientation@neu.edu.”
Or do you mean admitted student days?

Does anyone know if Northeastern will send physical copies of the acceptance letters in the mail? If so, when?
Hi @TomSrOfBoston you were right, registration isn’t up yet. Paramoid now about missing things since the CSS debacle! Thanks!
Hi - I was accepted into Nu.in. I was wondering if anyone knows if Nu.in students are allowed to leave during Thanksgiving break.
Also, if you are finished with your exams at a date earlier than what Northeastern says the departure date is, could you leave when you have fulfilled your requirements? Or, do you have to travel back as a group?
One more question - are nuin students academically behind when they return to Boston in January? Do they have to make up for what they missed by taking summer classes? What would they miss academically?
One more (sorry guys) - Do Nu.in students have to do Nuterm if they want to graduate in four years completing two co-ops?
- I would doubt it because you are traveling to countries that may not celebrate thanksgiving but they might be able to take it on a case by case basis. Email the director of nu.in
- Again, email the director, but I believe you will be taking the same classes as your group and so everyone should finish at the same time regardless
- If you go to a location that has the program for your major you Wil be on the same level as everyone else
- Everyone has to do NU term to graduate in 4 years with co-ops unless you come in with a large amount of credit and plan your classes wisely
Not necessarily true although doing NU Term will give you greater flexibility.
NuTerm is the name given to the summer 1 session after your freshman year - to graduate in 4 years you will need to take summer classes - though maybe not NuTerm - even 5 year program students take summer classes (and definitely co-op during summers)
Could I go to a location that has a program for my minor?
If it also has your major, yes. Whether that is possible depends on your major/minor combination. Though you likely won’t be starting your minor first semester, where you will probably want to focus on starting your major and core classes.
What if I am undecided but I know my minor for sure - Would I be behind if I went to a location with a program that has my minor?
Also, if I do nu.in, how do I choose which dorm room I would like to live in in January?
They typically house all the returning NU.In students together - some years it was in the new East Village - you most likely will get a limited choice - like single or double.
Does anyone know any details about the ‘golden ticket’ teased on NU admissions instagram?? Did you get one?
