Official Columbia Early Decision Class of 2015 Results-ONLY STATS

From looking at the accepted decision posts on this thread, it seems like Columbia rejected/deferred more ppl with high SAT scores (im gonna arbitrarily put that as 2300 +) than those with lower…

yep, just goes to show that SAT scores do not really matter at all. How you present yourself on your app is the most important thing.

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Pretty good, I think, but not especially spectacular. For my general essay, I wrote about my love of the Bard and how that/my interest in theatre helped me grow, and for my “why Columbia” short essay, I wrote about how great I think the Core is. I didn’t have enough characters to say all I wanted to say, though, and it was sad.
[] ECs: VP of a unique community service organization, VP of drama club, co-president of International Thespians Society troupe, VP of choir, speech/debate, summer theatre programs, intern job at local theatre, co-founder of community service theatre company, math tutor, creative writing workshop
[] Teacher Recs: I never saw them, but I think they were good since I have a very strong relationship with both of the teachers who wrote my recs.
[] Counselor Rec: Again, never saw, but pretty good I think?
[] Hook (if any): None, I don’t think? Other than my ethnicity, which I’m pretty sure is what did it for me.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Florida
[] School Type: Private, College Prep
[] Ethnicity: Hispanic
[] Gender: Female
[/ul]Other Factors: Low income household? Maybe?
General Comments: Like I said, I’m pretty sure that my ethnicity did it for me (I’m even a Kluge Scholar, so…), but I’m still stoked to be going! Columbia has been my dream school for so long!

I’m really lucky to have gotten into Columbia! Accepted by Rice and Georgia Tech, Waitlisted by Harvard and UPenn Wharton, and Deferred then Rejected by UChicago :/. College results seem pretty random this year, and I hope everyone got in where they wanted. I certainly did! :D

General Comments:

My son was deferred. Had SATs 2280, amazing ECs and national awards, excellent gpa, lots of APs (all 5s). He didn’t have an interview. Do you think that’s why he was deferred instead accepted?

limabeans, the interview does help give the college a more “well-rounded” view of your son as an applicant but it doesn’t make or break an application almost ever.

And for anyone looking at this, don’t worry if you are a Columbia hopeful, just do what mhs189 did 2 posts up and get a 2410 on your SAT. Anyone can do it.

^^HAHAHAHAHA You are JustRidiculous :)

To clarify (and not to rain down on any parades but just so we don’t demean mhs189 by falsely labeling him/her), mhs189 received a 2110 (SAT 750 M 660 V 700 W) from his other post: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1007616-chance-me-ivys-will-chance-back.html#post11263271</a>
He’s also an athlete.

this thread makes me wish i wasnt an asian male -.-

I just skimmed last years ED results. It was so depressing. There were so many people with such great stats who were rejected or deferred. It will probably be like that this year too unfortunately. Good luck with your decisions Columbia applicants class of 2012.
