Is today THE day when we are going to get an email from Columbia telling us when the real Day is?

That wouldn’t work. The fact that you’ve been in prison at all isn’t very appealing. The essay would only say something like “At first, I didn’t know breaking the law was bad. But when I went to prison for my actions, I then realized that I shouldn’t break the law.”
Not to mention that you would have to check off the part about disciplinary actions or whatnot on the Common App.

@Glido I’m not sure, but I don’t think the day where we learn of D-Day will be until like a day or 2 before.

^ But maybe he got into prison for reasons other than a crime?

This hasn’t been emphasized enough: don’t be VAIN. Your story, strange as it is, won’t intrigue the adcom into admitting you (mostly because in the end you didn’t not cure cancer or save a sinking ship anyway). For such an unusual narrative a commensurate depth and significance is expected. As bigchum94 said, if all that singularity culminates in an oversimplified, hackneyed message, it will reverse whatever potential your essay has.

HOWEVER, I strongly believe that such an experience is more likely to have inspired something in you more than anything else. If you’re able to articulate it with maturity, flair and confidence, it will be an enormous advantage.

I think he’s referring to Tobias Funke… He didn’t actually go to jail. Sheesh.

This just might be false hope but does getting a financial aid account mean something or does everyone who applies for it really get one? Because if the dates between the financial aid tracking and decisions are so close, would they really make an account for someone they’ll reject a week later?

Also: To add on to the 1st marking period grade theories, maybe admissions is asking for them because they’ll possibly be deferred?

saying hi from the barnard ED thread…so jealous that you guys hear a week earlier than us!

Hey! When do you hear, treehugga?

Also, can anybody access their account on admissions.columbia.edu?

hey-im another columbia ED person-just joining in on the conversation i love that ive found a group of us! nice to know im a little less alone in this whole suspenseful process.

@columbiafan: I still can. Does it end tonight?

It’s my birthday!!!

Happy Birthday Marlon!

That’s weird, I can access it now…

Happy Birthday Marlon!

No way Marlon, it’s my birthday too! And the urbandictionary word of the day is “birthday card.”

So pretty much our birthday is the best.

If Dec. 8th is D-Day, what time is H-Hour - 5pm EST? What time is it now . . . H-hour minus 145 hours? I don’t have a watch.

Barnard hears the 15th (or 16th), BY SNAIL MAIL. Like, its not the stone age anymore haha. They should do email or online like Columbia.

just wondering – is there anyone here who still hasn’t been asked by Columbia for first quarter grades? does anyone know if they make that big of a difference?

my college counselor told me that columbia asked her today for grades from all the seniors applying from my school. i’m hoping that this is just protocol since my grades really weren’t that great first quarter… i can’t afford to be a “borderline” candidate at this point, haha :P

@MaronBrando
If you get accepted ED to Columbia, then they will have made you an offer that you can’t refuse…literally

Did they ask everyone for first quarter grades? Because I’m not sure that I was asked…
