Official Columbia University Early Decision 2016 Thread

hahahahaha! i made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.

@hakunamatata! I haven’t heard from my counselor about grade requests. I’d be super ****ed if there was because I had a B in my newspaper course at the end of the quarter because my teacher is a lazy potato and didn’t enter grades into the school database on time. I have all As now, but I didn’t at that time. Kind of freaking out about that aspect. I hope this isn’t for every applicant. I’d be fine if I were rejected and they didn’t see my quarter grades, but that would really drive me up the wall if that contributed to my decision

Perhaps many of our counselors didn’t notify us that Columbia asked? I don’t know about your schools, but we don’t have that strong of a relationship with our counselors. But I will ask him on Monday if Columbia asked him.

What I’m afraid of is that my world history teacher accidentally gave me a B for first quarter, only to change it to an A after grades went out to parents. So, I’m wondering if Columbia will see that B or the correct grade, A (assuming Columbia asked my counselor) haha…

I have been asking my guidance counselor every day this week if she was contacted by columbia for my first quarter grades, she hasn’t been contacted yet.

I am also nervous b/c my Spanish teacher wrote a comment on my report card, i.e. “i have trouble remembering to bring books to class,” meanwhile i am always the earliest person to that class, always with my books. So when I confronted her about the comment, she was in complete shock, and told me she meant to select a different comment that was on top. I hope Columbia doersn’t get that version of my first q grades if my guidance counselor has to send them in!!

Me too! I just joined College Confidential.
We might all be going to college together next fall…
:D

Guys (possibly been asked like infinity billion times before), but do you know when Columbia sends out the ED notifications? i’ve been sweating bullets because my parents will shoot me if i don’t get accepted… D:

Rumor has it the 8th, and some people claim their counselors got notified of this, but it’s still up in the air as far as I’m concerned.

hey i just talked to my counselor today about the first 1/4 grades–columbia hasnt contacted him, and he said that he nor the other counselor at our school have never been asked for first 1/4 grades for columbia ED applicants, despite the fact we’ve had several students over the past few years accepted ED at columbia.

so im banking on the idea that its not hugely significant if your counselor wasnt asked for your first quarter grades.

@columbiakid9331: That’s a load off my mind, thanks. However, were those people who got into Columbia ED from your school athletes who got likely letters? Because that would explain why they weren’t asked.

To possibly shine some light on this whole “first quarter grades” issue, when my counselors send my transcript to the college I’ve applied to, they include all of the senior grades I’ve gotten so far. My school runs on trimesters, so my counselors send my fall midterm grades (which is probably equivalent to “first quarter grades” at other schools). I’m guessing not all schools automatically include senior grades in the transcripts they send to colleges for ED/EA, while some colleges (like Columbia) want to see them. So it’s probably just protocol for Columbia to ask for first quarter grades from ED applicants who haven’t sent them. Either way, no reason to fret over it.

My school does not send the first quarter grades with the counselor report and as of this afternoon, Columbia did not ask her for my grades…

zekaje-
nope! im actually fairly good friends with the brother of a girl who got in ED last year, and he tells me she did not get a likely letter. and our school also runs on trimesters, so senior grades would not have been available by the November 1st deadline–so i know her senior grades were not already included in her transcript either.

now, i cannot rule out the fact that they might have not asked because we are a trimester school and not a quarterly school… however, seeing as trimester grades came out a week after the deadline, i see no reason why they couldnt have asked for those anyway if thats what they were going for.

as for the “comments” comment, my counselor says that when they do see our grades, (which they will at the very least for the midyear report) they will only see our grades. no conduct, effort, comments, etc. then again, in my county school district, official print-ups of our grades not including report cards only show the grades.

So how exactly do we find out if we got in or not? Is it an email or is there a website?
