a pretty chill week before winter break actually! really glad though…cuz ill have time to nurse a rejection heartache lol

If we’re deferred, I think having applied ED might be a tipping point between two otherwise identical candidates, but I don’t expect it to make a difference.

No finals/midterms on my end, but I’m dealing with huge projects and papers due between now and winter break.

I love BWOG. I actually included The Blue and White in my Why Columbia Essay. since I am editor of my school newspaper for two years and won some journalism awards, I talked about how it inspired me when I visitied NYC a few years ago

Legitimate question… If I am a recruited athlete with a likely letter is there still a good chance I won’t get accepted? I’m having anxiety and doubt issues as of late like what if the coaches found somebody else to recruit instead, etc. lol.

^ It’s my impression that likely letters are essentially acceptances.

^ No chance that you will not get in. Just chill.

@nebbalish
you sneaky guy…in a classically college confidential manner, slipping in mention of awards that you’ve won.

@Bluedogs - D had a couple friends recruited for crew at a couple of Ivies.
Friend 1 received only a “verbal” intent from coaches while friend 2 received a written letter of intent. Verbal received “no’s” from both Ivies (attending Stanford) but written is attending Yale as a rower. I think you can relax.
btw - Stanford was a Vali with perfect ACT score. Yale didn’t come close but still a good student. Just goes to show…

too bad @nebbalish is a girl… right?

I know we are all either not working on other applications at all or working very casually on them. I just wrapped up my first of two for Cornell… and I felt like it was better than the material I submitted to Columbia. Not that what I submitted to Columbia was bad, but all of those unseen areas with room for improvement. For those of you who are working on other applications, have you had the same experience?

@ mustang…S just said the same thing last night. Goes to show the edit process really does work.

@mustangman, yes I am a girl, but it doesn’t bother me to be called “a sneaky guy”

I realize now that if I consulted CC more carefully, I could’ve refined my overall application a lot. I’m actually dreading writing all those horrendous essays for the rest of my schools.

Every night I get a rush of motivation to work more on other applications, but then I actually open up the supplements and my mind goes to “…thursday, now Netflix kbye.”

^ that. basically that. except tonight it’s hulu.

How many of y’all are musicians and did music supplements? Just wondering. One reason I am attracted to Columbia is because of its fine music program.

Not a musician, and I didn’t submit a supplement of any kind (basically I’m an untalented person).

Anyway, I approached the same subject as my CommonApp essay differently for my UC essay, and I think that might have been more successful. If I don’t get into Columbia, I might submit the essay I used for my UCs instead of the CommonApp essay I originally had.

I was going to submit an arts supplement of my paintings and such…but I realized that I’m applying for SEAS. And art is irrelevant to my major. So I just stopped myself.

I did show my interviewer my portfolio though.

I’m with @rchhay I didn’t submit any supplements either, not that I don’t have talents just none relevant to my major.

i did a music supp, but don’t intend to do anything with music in college, except maybe as an EC activity. figured bad supplements don’t hurt?

I sent in a supplemental evaluation from the HSP that’s on Columbia letterhead signed by an associate professor from Columbia who wants me to come back and work for the program as a TA. But as far as anything that’s actual talent, like art or music, nien. #creativityfail

^That sounds pretty legitimate, though.

If I get deferred, I might send in a supplemental letter of recommendation and maybe a creative writing sample.
