Official Cornell Class of 2019 Early Decision

@alyzahq‌ It might be better in your case since it is an underrepresented minority and first generation college is something highly commendable. But that is only part of your application so I’m not sure exactly how much weight it is given. I would guess and say it will give you a slight advantage over non first generation applicants but I hesitate to say that they would accept you just because of that scores and ecstatic carry much more importance, however since you are here you are probably an above average student so no worries

@Autumn97‌ thanks!

Dayum my school is pretty small compared to you guys. ~180ish. 6 applied ED.

my school is in the 2800’s-2900’s. Around 750 in my grade. 60-70 people are applying to cornell. Every year, around 12 people get accepted. is that a lot? Most of the accepted don’t do ed.

My school is about 2400, but my grade is only around 490. I’m the only one who’s applying ED!

My school is about 750. Only two people in the history of my school have gone to Cornell. I am the only one applying ED.

@BPearlman97‌ Hey, I got into Penn State too! Did you apply for Schreyer?

@Autumn97‌ too bad I’m white first generation

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t the # of other applicants at your school only matter if they are applying to the same college within Cornell? Like from my understanding the admissions at the individual colleges are completely independant of each other?

You’re right @connor2019. Each college is autonomous in its admissions and everything.
I’m the only one to have applied to cornell from my entire town in history. Ditto for school. I don’t know if it helps or hurts

Dang. You guys are lucky to be hte only applicants. maybe it’s because of regions but my school has so many people applying to all the ivies. especially cornell

I think I’m one of the only few however who’s applying for cals for ED though. most of the other applicants in my school want to do engineering

Asian (Indian) first generation. im not ur stereotypical asian though. been though child protective services and spent sophomore and jr year in foster homes in nearby towns. my grades are horrible. My guidance counselor told me in the lower 50th percent of my class but my school doesnt give percentile ranks, just gpas. but sr yr im five points from straight a’s few ap courses this year, classes mostly science, math, writing, and business based 1950 sat and 27 act…do i even have a shot or will they just cut me after looking at my gpa? i want to be a hotelie more than anything else in the world right now

@hotelieatheart, I’m not an adcom, and I won’t lie to make you feel better. But in all honesty, throughout this thread, you have conveyed your passion the most. If you did that in your essays and your interview (hotel has interviews, right?) then you have a shot. You have a unique background, and that’s working for you. Best of luck

@BetterThanBest I mean it’s obviously better for you than for people who have multiple classmates EDing for the same college within cornell. But I don’t think it helps that nobody has ever gone. Like I can’t see them looking up data like that. And kind of related - not specifically cornell, but I’ve heard that colleges sometimes like to admit stufents who comes from a high schools they’ve had many students from before that have succeeded at the college. I’m sure that won’t apply to you, I just thought it was interesting!

Me being the only one ever to apply is just a part of problem. I’m Indian, male. India has many feeder schools for ivies and I don’t attend any of them. My school is completely unknown to any US college. I’m positive that it hurts me.
You people are lucky to have people to tell you about colleges. Your GC, parents, friends, teachers etc.

I’ve been really slacking off my other apps…
Are you guys going to school the next day after decisions?

dont get discouraged if your school isnt feeder material or if your new to apply in your respective area. You have the element of surprise. I know i would certainly consider what a student from another area could bring rather than the applicants from feeder school that i already have expectations from who dont really surprise me. i think if you stand out in your area you have a better shot than being in a feeder school with five people who all equally stand out. just my opinion but relax and dont worry about the trivial. Tomorrow we get emails for our accounts to see the decisions on dec 11 im pretty srue.

@airspirit‌ if I get in, I’m definitely going to school rocking all my Cornell gear the next day.

It would be interesting to know the average acceptance rate for CCers lol

there were only 9 asian males accepted to the hotel school last year…that’s wicked scary
