Official Cornell Class of 2019 Early Decision

yes, i certainly think a small percent of asians may have checked white if at least one of their parents were not asian and they didnt have a telling last name…im a Patel lol so obviously indian. i cant do that. personally, i couldnt check off anything else even if i had the chance to…my ethnicity is who i am. you cant understand me if you dont understand and respect where i come from. but ppl can check the white box if they like. colleges can also cross reference with your highschool transcript or something, sat, and act registration…it really is up to what you want to do but stay consistent and dont let them catch you i advise (even if they only use it for statistical purposes as there is still something “off” about doing it) . and i didnt take it personally or think of it as offensive. i just wanted you to feel certain that my data was reliable because i’ve sifted through tons of bad data…now i always feel the need to ask “who told you that or what is your source” so i dont panic over bad info. we should get some sleep man…no use staying up this late for speculation. nite man

@airspirit‌ of course

i dont think checking off ethnicity is relevant at all in what hotelieatheart is talking about. the link he provided is for enrollment, cornell will know your ethnicity after you are admitted even if you chose not to answer the question on the common app

<a href=“No Asians Need Apply | The Cornell Daily Sun”>http://cornellsun.com/blog/2011/11/14/no-asians-need-apply/</a></p>

@hotelieatheart‌ thank you for the link. That was very helpful!

I think we should all receive the email today. They’ve been updating their website on the 5th of December for the last two years.

@LooneyToon‌, what’s the link to the website? And which email do we get?

@Cornell19:

I think If they DO receive SIGNIFICANTLY less applicants, rate would go up. If the no. is marginally smaller than previous year’s, the rate would be pretty similar. Cornell’s been admitting a pretty consistent % of its class in the ED round (~40%).
I doubt that no. of applicant would decrease. ED applicants for class of 2018–4782, 2017–4203, 2016–3600, 2015–3479.
My money is on 200 to 300 more applicants and close to 26% admit rate.
@TodaysEinstein: Email in which cornell tells about how to access decisions etc etc. I don’t know what website he;s talking about.

Hi guys:) I applied ed to SHA!

What’s the international acceptance rate for ED? IB acceptance rate? I’m so stressed, my results come out around 3 am on my friend’s birthday

Has anybody’s web login account been updated or has it stayed the same for a couple of weeks?

@TodaysEinstein‌
@BetterThanBest‌

This is what I was talking about. 5th December for the past two years.

http://admissions.cornell.edu/news/early-decision-notification-update-0</a>
http://admissions.cornell.edu/news/early-decision-notification</a></p>

@BetterThanBest‌ if the admission date is really the 11th, I doubt they had an increase.

@Cornell19: How’s decision date an indicator of how many applied? I don’t think that decisions coming out early is an indicator of less apps. How’d you reach that conclusion?

@BetterThanBest‌ places with less apps, decisions come out earlier and vice versa. If you look at previous years, Cornell has pushed the decision date further back each year they’ve received more apps. Anyways relative to other Ivy leagues, Cornells ED applicant number has increased significantly more each year (which makes sense because it used to be 1.5x “easier” than the other ones). That is no longer the case, Cornell is like 27% and the others are 24%. The previous increases Cornell has been receiving in applicants is unsustainable and a correction wluldnt be surprising

The point pertaining to selectivity and no of apps is rather shocking and makes sense. the people who applied to Cornell ED just because it’s easier to get into probably don’t end up at Cornell cuz it would show in the essays. if they do, they might be in for a surprise.
I still don’t think that 300 apps either way would make Cornell push its decision date. That’s just my intuition.

@BetterThanBest‌ I definitely think there’s a correlation between selectivity and amount of apps. People want to apply where they have the best chance of getting in. Anyways that’s just my opinion. Cornell in 2011 released on Decemebr 8th, December 13 in 2012, and the 15th or 16th in 2013

@LooneyToon‌ do you expect an announcement to come out like those today?

@alyzahq‌ Yeah, I mentioned a few posts ago too. I’m anticipating it, but I could be wrong. I’m just judging by what I’ve seen for the past two years.

@LooneyToon‌ it makes sense that it’d come out today being the fifth, hopefully it comes out soon and confirms the speculation about the 11th
