Applying for Econ in College of Arts and Sciences
Anyone have stuff marked as received in their Cornell application system? I clicked on “Check application status” and nothing has that green check next to it, except for the Common App. They haven’t even received my Writing Supplement yet…
The only other things they received were my test scores but they appeared while the office was on break so I’d assume that’s automated.
@allenplay Probably only people who applied before break have more checks. I only have the checks you do but I sent everything in too. There’s an updated message in the “check application status” though about materials.
@balhbalh Hey, I’m applying to comp sci from a competitive CA (well…our state is competitive in general ugh) school too!
So guys…how many B’s do you think is too many…
@awesomekid: 1 B is too many. However 7 B’s is too few. That question is so subjective, and no answer will be satisfactory. If you have two B’s on your transcript, in BC Calculus and Physics C, and you plan on applying to engineering, that may be too many (or it may not be). However, if you have those two B’s and you plan on applying to religious studies, I think it will be okay. If you have one B, it’s really not going to matter. That isn’t going to be the reason you’re accepted/rejected. The same goes with two, or three. If your question is where do they draw the line, there is no answer. I have two B’s on my transcript. The first is in Honors Chem. The second is in Spanish 4. I took AP Chem and got an A, with a 4 on the AP, and I do not plan on doing anything related to foreign language. So am I screwed? I’m sure Cornell would rather see you have 2, 3, 4, etc. B’s while taking all AP/IB courses, as opposed to having straight A’s in basket weaving.
Does anyone know of any way to send my resume to Cornell? Thru the portal?
There is a link you use to send supplemental info.
http://admissions.cornell.edu/news/submission-supplemental-materials-0
However, Cornell does not ask for a resume, meaning they really don’t want one unless you feel it’s necessary…
Ask yourself this -
Was most of your resume on the common app? Is the large majority repetitive?
right now these are the documents they have in the “received” section …

@balhbalh You have the stats of a competitive applicant. Your experience with comp sci will give you an edge, but it’s mostly the essays and ECs that will be the deciding factor and how well you convey yourself. Good luck!
@balhbalh OOS doesn’t matter for private schools. Also, PSAT commendation doesn’t really mean anything because they see your test scores anyway. The only thing it could arguably do is make up for low standardized test scores, which you don’t have.
OOS can help if it’s an underrepresented state.
Is Rhode Island considered an underrepresented state?
Idk. Probably not, since it’s in the NE. It won’t hurt you, though. Best of luck
