I heard that many likely letters are sent to athletes.
Okay. A 2200 / 4.0 uw / valedictorian is not by any means average. Please never again claim it is.
Congrats though!
Cornell is the dream but some other great options have opened up for me. Over $90,000 scholarship to university of south Carolina which is the number one honors college and international business program. And $32,000 to Chapel Hill which Im in state for. Still hoping for cornell though
@vetmed2822 I tried to do some research but I couldn’t see anything about likely letters and CALS. Perhaps CALS doesn’t send any out?
@jamesjunkers - If you’ll pardon my saying this, but I believe @collegehunny was referring to her stats relative to the average admitted student to Cornell and while her scores are probably slightly above the 50th percentile, they could still be considered “average” with respect to the student body. Also, a high ranking is common at Cornell and valedictorians are rejected often. That being said, I very much understand what you are probably saying. A lot of people get caught up in the idea that because there are many people like them at the “top” they are mediocre or average - which isn’t helpful to one’s self-perception at best, and at worst it can be offensive to others who are below this self-assigned “average”.
Most likely letters will be sent to athletes, URMs, and women in engineering. I would imagine that aside from those, very few other accepted applicants will receive likelies. I wouldn’t worry about it at all.
I also received a LL!! I believe the letters are only sent to women in engineering and not males since the letter talked about a Spring Women in Engineering Program that’s offered. But my stats are definitely mid range or below average.
2140 SAT, 3.9 uw 4.6 weighted GPA, rank 14/460, 760 SAT II Math, 740 SAT II Bio, 610 SAT II Chem, many extracurriculars but none related to engineering as well mostly medical such as Red Cross.
Congrats to everyone who got likely letters!! I really hope they won’t take their word back and waitlist or reject us instead
Even if you didn’t receive a letter, that doesn’t mean you won’t eventually get in
@jamesjunkers Very sorry that what I wrote came off wrong! I meant exactly what @ClassicalCollege said. Also, I completely agree that it was wrong of me to call my stats “average,” and I apologize. Checking CC too much really warps your perception…
Ahh the pressure’s starting to build up now that likely letters are out!!
Any international COE applicants here living outside USA who received a likely letter??
Also is it bad if a female engineer doesn’t get a likely letter… Should I be worried??!
No worries - I understood what you meant, just frustrating to read it
Are" Likely Letters" sent / received via e-mail or snail mail?
DD received a likely letter via email yesterday. She is also engineering.
Question - does EOP increase chances?
Can an international student even get a likely letter? International mail takes weeks to arrive anyway
I don’t think its snail mail… Its an email… So I don’t think it would take weeks… I think i saw an international on last years likely letters thread…
I know these likely letters are for Cornell days and all that and it would be kind of silly for Cornell to expect that students would come all the way just for a few days but I did get a similar email (student introduction to engineering) from UIUC…
Does ROTC recipients tend to get “Likely Letters”? Son has already received the letter for a 4 year ROTC scholarship for Cornell, but he hasn’t been admitted into the school (yet).
I got a call from a student ambassador from the Human Ecology school (the school I applied to). I didn’t get the chance to answer it and he left a voicemail saying that I should call or email if I have any questions/concerns about the school of HE. What does this mean?!?
Check your email guys! just got a likely through a diversity hosting event
Hi,
I just received an email saying that I have been accepted to Cornell University class of 2019. I applied to them regular decision (and I’m not sure when the results are suppose to come out) but I just received the email today. Wow!
They have offered to fly me in for a visit. I’m so excited!!!
What college at Cornell?
