General Comments:
I was disapointed and shocked (mainly b/c many ppl said i would get in). But after looking at some other ppl’s stats, i’m surprised I was lucky enough to get deferred! I mean, some of you that got rejected have like, super super SAT scores and all, way better than mine!!! I can’t believe that Cornell didn’t defer you at the least!

DEFERRED from ILR

Counselor Rec: don’t know
Hook (if any): VP of christian club, active in church youth group

State or Country: PA
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: korean
Gender: F
Other Factors:

General Comments: definitely disappointed, maybe because of lack of leadership positions in freshmen-sophomore yrs, definitely because of my gpa; convinced that cornell cares A LOT more about a perfect GPA than a perfect SAT score. so keep those A’s in high school people!

ehh now i have to search other college forums for backup school reassurance [if that makes sense]

congrats to you guys who got into ilr :]

Actually, it sounds like ILR wants to know more about why you are so interested in the ILR school.

i’m still a little confused about ilr’s admissions process… i guess the essay mattered a lot, but the fact that ilr deferred many applicants with such high stats confounds me…

It’s not that difficult. If they do not think that you have an honest interest in the subject matter they will not accept you. The last thing the ILR school needs is some generic pre-business, stressed out, AEM or Hotel wannabes.

**Decision: REJECTED! **

**Stats: **[ul]
[] SAT: 730 math, 720 cr, 670 writing
[] SAT IIs: 760 math ii, 750 bio-e, 730 lit
[] GPA: no idea how our school reports our marks. would really really really love to know. Averages around A-s but standard deviation is not a +/-. But the percent number is a 87 avg. It’s tough to get high marks at our school… =(.
[] Rank: not reported by school.
[] Other stats: AP US History (3), AP Spanish (3), AP Chemistry (4)
[/ul]
Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: intersting direction for both of them. the supplementary could definitely do with a re-do. not my best work, I have a feeling they’re what blew it for me.
[] Teacher Recs: I’m pretty sure they were great, not kick-butt, but not bad in the least
[] Counselor Rec: this I’m not sure of. it was either good or really good…
[] Hook (if any): summer college alum '08
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Canada
[] School Type: Private, pretty competitive entry and survival
[] Ethnicity: Mix
[li] Gender: M[/li][/ul]Other Factors:

Solid X-Currs. A fair amount of leadership, wide-spread diverse interests. I put a lot of work into this portfolio, so I’m hoping it didn’t play a role in the REJECTION!

One downside: no solid sports.

General Comments:

I replaced my second essay mid-Nov (I have a feeling this played a part in the rejection). Word of warning, they seemed ok with switching it on the phone, but their e-mail system automatically deletes all attachments and doesn’t tell you. Hence, the two week delay in me figuring that out and deciding to use old tech: the fax =D.

Ughh this ILR deferal stinks. Finally done with my 9 other apps though. I guess my ILR essay wasnt ILR specific enough although I had thought it really was. I’ll probobly send in a letter stating its still my first choice and my uncle whos an ILR alum offered to send a letter. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Yeah my HumEc deferral really stinks too, I sent all my college apps FINALLY, and now I have a huge physics test to complete for Monday.
And then midterms to study for.
But I’m definitely going to send HumEc a letter of interest in mid-January telling them about how my EC’s influenced my interest in HBHS and how my EC’s tie in well with their mission. Hopefully that might increase my chance of admission RD.
Quick question: Should I address my letter to the specific adcom I talked to (who, incidentally, never responded to my email) or to HumEc admissions in general? Ex: Dear Ms. ___ or Dear Human Ecology Admissions?

I’m just so afraid I’m going to get a myriad of rejection letters in April, including one from Cornell. Cornell is still my top choice, though if Williams accepts me AND gives me really good financial aid, I might choose it instead. But it’s highly unlikely that I’ll even be accepted to either, so at this point the issue is whether I’ll get in somewhere other than the state schools I applied to.

Happy New Year to everyone, I hope it will bring college acceptances! And good health, of course.

I also got deferred from Human Ecology…not one person from my school (30 people applied to Cornell) got into any of Cornell’s schools.

I’m not too hopeful about regular decision, because my GPA sucks, but everyone I know assumed I was going to get into Cornell with a 2270 SAT score/35 ACT score/triple legacy/good extracurriculars.

bambi you from NY too?

I hope RD will go better for us deferrees… it seems like HumEc deferred a lot of kids.
When should I be sending this letter of interest thing?

Chandler im actually trying to write it now and ill proboly send it off moday. I figure it’ll get there by the 15th so that might be good, smack in the middle of jan. I really hope they just defered us NY’ers to see how Rd shapes out in terms of oos’ers matroculating but im losing any hope on that front. Have you heard of any other Ny’ers getting into ILR or Human Ec in your neck of the woods. I’ve met maybe 3 defered hum ec and 2 defered ilr’ies here in middle westchester all of whom had above average stats and good ec’s so who knows, I still dont know any ny’ers who have goten into those schools. GL with your letter.

cheers,
mike

Maybe I’ll start it soon… if it gets there by Feb I think that’ll be fine, but I’ll try to send it by next weekend.
I don’t know anyone who applied to CALS, HumEc, or ILR from my area who got into Cornell actually.
No one I know applied to ILR though. Mostly HumEc/CALS and many were denied, some deferred.
My school had about 8 outright rejections ED to Cornell… mostly to CALS
