Wow, it’s so exciting that acceptance threads for the class of '11 are already underway. Congrats to everyone accepted! I am excited for all of you.

Hairdressronfire, I didn’t know you could take the Dec. Sat II’s for EA.

Decision: ACCEPTED (sry but the template was just far 2 hard 4 me…)

I found out lk a couple weeks ago (my dad knows a dean and the director called us w/ congrates in mid November…) but I couldn’t tell anyone!! So good to finally shout it aloud!! (ps: didn’t actually apply ED but we know the decision is standing…and I love Darthmouth so im def going!!)

-don’t really know if these stats will help any1 gadge their chances (i’m perceptive enuf 2 know i’m not a “typical” applicant…but still…)

Stats:
SAT: 2290: V800 M700 W790
SAT IIs: Lit790 US History780 MathI800
ACT: 34
GPA: 3.87u-8APs total so u do the weighting if u want…
Rank: 25/118 (DON’T ask how…)

Subjective:
Essays: just ok, modeling competition v college apps
Teacher Recs: not 2 hot, i’m fairly new @ a very close knit
school
Counselor Rec: ditto^ merely ok
Hook: none (lk 2 think alum and money don’t mean 2 much…)

Location/Person:
State or Country: USA; West Coast presently
School Type: boarding 9, private 10, 11, 12 (3 different schools)
Ethnicity: white
Gender: male

Other Factors: Double Legacy, write-up in national mag as
up-and-coming runway model, 2 interviews (had a director 4
dinner) 1 that went over by 40 minutes (my interviewer was
obviously gay…so i was kinda gay 4 the day) Arrested 4 an
MiP @ a party in 10th grade but it obviously wasn’t a huge
hangup…

General Comments: Kinda was a given (my dad’s side of the family are lk
historic @ the school: dad, an uncle, grandpa, and
great-grandpa…) and I’ve been told I was going since I
was lk 5…even have my place picked out.

still…GOOD LUCK EVERYONE AND CONGRATS!! HOOOHAAAH!!

Why would you flaunt your special treatment? Is it any wonder people write about hating legacies? As another double legacy '11 (who never had a director to dinner and was accepted with everyone else), I really wish you would show some discretion.

theres no problem with being honest about special treatment. just dont be obnoxious.

Hey! I’m an '11 as well, and also from Texas!

haha i love how boyfleur7 said “my interviewer was
obviously gay…so i was kinda gay 4 the day”

Anyway congratulations to all! :)

Decision: Accepted!

IB Biology: 5 (out of 7, did horrible)
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I’m not going to answer this or the teacher/counselor recs, because you can never truly judge your essays the same way an admissions officer would, and also because I didn’t read my teacher/counselor recs, so who knows what they said.

General Comments: Greatest weakness was my grades… in part caused because IB, which is much harder than AP at my school, was given equal weight-- argh. SO EXCITED TO GO!!! And do not do not give up hope, if you were deferred or denied!

apologies 2 any1 offended…reading back my entry does sound kinda obnoxious

I can’t apologize for being born into the family I was. But I’m
sorry if I sounded lk a jerk about it…tho I still believe that I
would have had a competitive shot even w/out that edge.
Legacy is weird (as I'm sure suze can relate 2) and the
feeling of not being deserving sucks. What I was trying 2 get
across (and perhaps did a poor job of,) is that I've known
that I was going 2 Dartmouth since I was 2. Maybe I would
have treated the decision w/ more tact if it had felt more
lk a decision...

not 2 drag down the general gaiety of this thread w/ all this

CONGRATULATIONS AND GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!!__

Being a legacy doesn’t necessarily get an applicant in, but it IS likely to make people wonder whether the applicant actually was up to snuff when compared with others who were accepted. Of course, it certainly doesn’t mean that an accepted legacy applicant isn’t up to snuff, either.

It is a delicate subject. I have cautioned my D, who is a legacy at her dream school, to be low-key about it. I’d give all of you legacies the same advice.

And please remember that a lot of legacies – kids who have loved Dartmouth for just as long and just as much as you have – ultimately will not get in, something that will be very painful for them and for their families. A boy in my D’s class is among that group – stats within the Dartmouth envelope but flat-out rejected last week. There but for the grace of God …

Last year, a 4- generation Harvard legacy got flat out rejected with competitive scores early action. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.
