Official Dec 2012 SCIENCE thread

I can’t say for sure, but I definitely put both decreased. As concentration of NaOH went up, it would need less volume to equalize the analyte. I can’t remember for the life of me what the other point was (equilibrium and ??)?

Halfway point?

First of all efeens, you’re very mistaken. Maybe you forgot your physics, but gravity is the weakest when an object is the farthest away from earth. In addition, the scientists want to have the most precise c of rest. Air resistance would minimize the force of the ball.

For the 0.2 M question, both increased in relation to the given 0.1 solution. Why? Well, if there’s a higher concentration of molecules, you’re going to need more of the neutralizing substance to neutralize the acid, given that the NaOH concentration doesn’t change, right? Therefore, more volume was required.

@waddupwaddup i think you mixed up the substances… the NaOH was added, at .2 mol/L, so you needed less to get the same results… so both decreased, they did NOT increase

Is it just me or was this section extremely hard? I was scoring so well on the practice tests and then I get the real thing and there was so much physics and I am fairly sure it killed my entire score. :(

I thought it was pretty easy. First time I took the ACT I had never seen a science section before and was caught by surprise. Ended up with a 34 composite but a 31 science section. I thought it was really straightforward this time, pretty sure I got a 36. But everyone is different. I’m not sure about you but I thought math was IMPOSSIBLE this time around

Does anyone know the answer to one of the physics ones that said which has the highest electricity or something for the amount of volts being .2 .4 .6 and .8? It said to look at figure 3 is what I remember.

Also, definitely air resistance. Can’t believe people are fighting over this one.

SAT, I really hope you did that well. The science section always seems to have some sneaky surprises…also, what score do you guys think a -5 would be for the science?

-5 would probably be a 28 or 29 is my guess. The science curve is usually brutal.

I think a -5 would probably be ~30. Maybe a 29 if they’re harsher on this curve
and I hope I did that well too. Pretty confident tbh and I need it to balance out with my terrible math score. Shooting for a 35 comp this time…

Hopefully…what did you get last time? I think that after the 30 barrier…a higher score isn’t really a deal-maker with regards to college acceptance.

ANYONE?

.8

I got a 34 composite but had a 31 science section. And yeah it doesn’t make that huge a difference, but it may depend on the college. They usually just want to see that you’re competent and get a decent score. Like HYPS won’t really care if I got a 35 rather than a 34 but I felt like trying anyway

@thirrdplanet
Yeah it was .8

THANK GOD. For some reason that’s the only one that threw me off. I had it at .2 and changed it to .8 at the last second and then regretted it. Not anymore! Thanks guys.

I’m hoping for a 31 or if I struck gold, a 32. I think I did well on every section but math…

The ACT is so frustrating…the timing just really puts me under pressure. If I had like 5-7 mins more, I would be able to raise my score by like 4 points. Who knows though…do you think it will be an overall generous curve or harsh curve?

Yeah try doing it with ADHD dude! It sucks for me.

I think it’ll probably be generous for math because it seems like a lot of people are freaking out about that but I don’t think it will be very generous for the rest. It seemed quite easy compared to both the Sep and Oct tests.

I like the ACT a LOT more than the SAT though. I feel like the SAT is constantly trying to trick me and I have to overanalyze every single question to get it right. While on the ACT it is more a gut feeling thing that works best. Time wasn’t even an issue for me – only on the essay was I rushed. And I did 0 prep, which may have been foolish but I wasn’t overwhelmed at all.
