These days, URM does not make as significant an impact as most people think at top schools. It does make a small impact. SAT, just aim for your best – since the guy who got into all ivies got 2250, that’s probably the score you should aim for. Needless to say, you don’t HAVE to get that score to get into a top school.

Cal and UCLA do care a lot about stats though, so for those schools especially, you need a strong score.

@Woandering I don’t really have that many EC’s. I’m a class officer, I’m in NHS and I have about 60 volunteer hours at a food and clothes closet. UCLA would be the dream for me, but I’m not even sure I can get into UCLA. That’s why I want to eventually get 2000+ SAT and 30+ ACT. But I have nothing that really that makes me competitive for Ivies. Plus my class rank is like 30/400. (And I don’t even go to that competitive of a school, last time somebody from my high school went to an ivy was class of 2012 the valedictorian got into Harvard and #3 class rank got into Dartmouth) Nobody in 2013 or 2014 has gotten into an Ivy from my HS.

@woandering how did you consistently get 800s on writing MC. People say it is the easiest to improve but my writing has been stagnate for the past couple of months.

@dallascowboys1 I didn’t get 800 (790 only )but what helps is just practicing a lot even though your score may be stagnant or even oscillate.I used Erica’s Grammar Guide and it really helped. Just know the grammar rules and understand why all the wrong answers are incorrect. This is how I went from high 400s to 790.

@dallascowboys1 focus on what you are struggling with the most. What’s your range? I think what will help the most is practicing with past real exams because then you notice little patterns.

@dallascowboys1
What is your essay score? At this point a lot of practice definitely will help because you are probably making random errors. For instance, I personally count the errors to make sure i don’t have too many toward the end and I make sure to know why something is wrong rather than if it sounds awkward.
It also depends on luck. (Which kinda sucks).

I suppose you do know yourself best. Just keep in mind that we tend to be hard on ourselves. It wouldn’t hurt to send in one application for your absolute dream school.

@dallascowboys1
I never consistently got 800 in Writing. Nearest I got (consistently) was 780. Writing’s my worst.

Odd since I’m so much better at math than at the other two subjects. Then again I know I made some careless mistakes on math and the curve was probably bad enough to knock it down 60 points with just a couple of errors.

Will colleges superscore with my last SAT since I took it freshman year (it’s the only other time I took it and I got a 790 in math. Not the end of the world if it doesn’t work out but I’d like it anyway). Basically is that test date too early?

Congrats to everyone else! We’re done at least for the time being!
